Best route from Convention Centre area to Wild Florida
I wonder if any of the regulars could help with this one.
I'm trying to plan the best route to get to Wild Florida at Cypress Lake from just north of the Convention Centre (Vista Cay). Having never been to Florida, let alone driven there, I'm currently relying on Google Earth but am unsure how up to date the satellite images are. I'm hoping the hire car will have sat nav (plus will have phone if not) but I like to do a bit of prep just in case. Please can somebody verify (or otherwise!) the following route: - 528 east to join the 91 (Florida's turnpike) heading south - Exit the 91 at exit 240 (just south of St Cloud) to join the 525 heading south - Join the 523 (Canoe Creek Rd) from the 525 heading south - Stay on the 523 until it crosses the 91 & turn right onto Lake Cypress Rd My immediate questions are any tolls on this route & is it even possible to join the 91 from the 528 heading east? TIA. |

This is the route i would take with toll roads -
goo.gl/maps/9HsBMBSuqXGd8mdg7 Dont use google earth, use Google Maps, then on your smart phone download the florida maps for google maps too. Also, if android, download Android Auto for your phone.

The exit off the Turnpike that is closest to Wild Florida that you mentioned is SUNPASS ONLY. There is no cash lane (not even exact change). If you don't want to use Sunpass on your hire car for some reason, you have to get off at the 192 exit instead. Personally I would just start using Sunpass on your journey from the airport. It will make the trip to Wild Florida much easier
I would also follow RickT's advice and download the Google map. To answer your question you will have no problem joining the Florida Turnpike from 528 but don't look for signs for 91, I didn't even know it was called that!

Thanks for the replies Rick & Donna, that's really helpful.
And thanks also for the tips about Google Maps & Sunpass. I was thinking of paying cash at the tolls generally but didn't realise that there are some that are Sunpass only so that clinches it, Sunpass it is. The hire car is with Alamo & I believe their Sunpass rates are pretty good. |

I can only think of 2 tolls that are Sunpass only but you are heading for one if them so you have definitely made the right choice.

Your Alamo car will not have a transponder. All the rentals work with platepass. when you use a Sunpass or ePass lane the numberplate is logged and a charge made to Alamo. This plus the admin fee is charged to your CC a few weeks after your return.
The admin fee is about $3.95/day for each day you use it capped at $20 per rental period. We always use Alamo for this reason among others. Have you done Online Check In so you can miss the rental desk?
