Editing photos on MDE

I'm trying to edit a few of our photos, mainly to add a year sticker/border to a select few. I get as far as the edit itself, but when I try to okay the edit and export the photo, I encounter a few seconds delay, then get thrown out of the app. The edit facility isn't available on my MacBook Air or my android phone, so I am trying this on my daughter's mini iPad. Has anyone else managed to edit recently and can perhaps offer some guidance? Many thanks.
