What you need is a wireless adapter for your PC. That's about the limit of my knowledge but they are not too hard to come by or expensive and they are easy to set up.

This is a simple thing to do
Just get a wireless dongle. This will plug into a USB port on your new PC and then it will act as a wireless link to your router! PC World or Maplins will help you. |

I'm not too clued up either, and was wondering about something similar. Would this dongle thing enable me to get an internet connection if I was out and about with my laptop? If not, what would I need to get to access the internet away from home please?

Before you go to maplins, whats the router model you have?
Is it a free 'hub' from an ISP such as the livebox, home hub etc, or is it a traditional modem ie origo, netgear? Nearly all wireless routers will have a LAN port (or 4) to allow an ethernet connection to your PC. You just need to buy an ethernet cable and connect the two. Nine times out of ten, XP and vista will recognise the connection without having to mess about with settings too. Maplins will sell the cables, but ebay is a LOT cheaper. If you go the dongle route, beware of cheap ones as some won't retain a strong signal and will cut you off the dibb from time to time
