Favourite Canary Island

What is your favourite canary island and why?

We are looking to go for some winter sun Feb/March time.

We are a couple in 50s, like nice food & wine. Somewhere quiet and relaxing, a promenade to walk along, like being near a marina. Don't like loud entertainment, full English breakfast type places - or certainly places dominated by places like this.

Thanks in advance,

We’re just back from Lanzarote, stayed at the Aqua Suites in Puerta Del Carmen, the hotel was exceptional, we had half board and intended to go out a couple of evenings but the food was so good we never did! no buffets, everything was cooked to order, the resort was ok, had a promenade and a harbour but there were quite a few touristy shops as well x

Lanzarote, we are actually here right now. If you stay somewhere less typically tourist you won’t encounter as many “tourist” led restaurants. I actually like Puerto del Carmen and it has some lovely areas and the harbour is lovely but it is touristy still. If you want to get further away from it think about looking at Playa Honda or even going somewhere small like Arietta. We are staying in Guime which is lovely and central but not next to the sea. Otherwise Puerto Calero is lovely, some really nice restaurants and a beautiful marina.

Avoid Playa Blanca, it is ridiculously touristy and has so many British and Irish pubs!

gran canaria is lovely, we stayed in maspolomas and it was perfect... the sand dunes are brilliant and you can go on a camel ride on there.
We have a friend who has a holiday home in Lanzarote he spends about 6 months of the year out there, comes back to Yorkshire in the summer and spends winter out there

Any particular area. My brothers go to Puerto Rica & say it isn't my thing but wouldn't mind being close enough to go for a night out.

Another vote for Lanzerote, we went to playa blanca in November and it was lovely, marina, lovely long beach front walk and plenty of resturants/bars, but not too in your face.

You could try Peurto Mogan - it seems to fit your criteria and not far from Peurto Rico.

Lanzarote, Playa Blanca is my favourite. Such a nice relaxing place. Costa Adele in Tenerife is a close second.
