Vegas Hotels
My niece is being married in Vegas in March 09.We want to attend but also want to visit friends in NZ too. Any recommendations for a nice but reasonable hotel in Vegas for a week ? Don't like to bother Val at the mo.Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks,

We stayed at the Mandalay bay and I can recommend that fabulous hotel. When we were there got taking to an american couple and they sid the thought it was expensive and preferred to stay in the Paris as it was central and in the cheaper brackets and too be honest the room was a simialsr size but in a different style to ours.
I would suggest looking around the vegas websites as the sights and finding one you like the look off as hter is fantastic choice in vegas at resonable prices, especially mid week, thats when we stayed as prices nearly double at week end also signing up for a couple of newsletters from a hotel you like as we found they had different offers throughout the year.

We stayed at Circus Circus for New Year 2006 and TBH it is quite a way up the strip if/when we go back again we would look at Bally's or the Imperial they are very central on the strip and very reasonably priced hope this helps x

Mandalay bay is a lovely hotel but I wouldn't put it in the 'reasonable' bracket as it's expensive.
Circus Circus is a little too far away from the action of the strip and also it's a little worn. I've stayed in the Imperial Palace, it is very central but again a little worn, also, unless you are a clubber you need to be very specific about which room you get as some of the rooms look over the open air music area which plays music up til 2 am! For a reasonable price hotel I would highly recommend the Excalibur, I've stayed there before and have booked the upgraded rooms for June this year. You can also get some very good deals at the Luxor which is a little more expensive than the Excalibur. From personal experince I would say that the rooms are much of a muchness and you won't spend much time in them so don't go spending a fortune, keep your money for the slots! Keep an eye on this web site for some good deals: vegas-promotions/

We stayed at the Luxor last Feb & paid approx £100 a night. It was a lovely hotel & had def wow factor. We had a fab time. The luxor has rooms in the pyramid & in 2 towers, the rooms in the towers are newer but we choose to stay in the pyramid for the expriance. Ask for a room on a higher floor as on the lower floors you can hear the noise of the casino.
Lots of lovely/amazing hotels in Vegas but I wouldn't stay at Circus Circus or Excaliber. Also Stratosphere too far at top of strip & surrounding area not very nice. I can recommend the Brits Guide to Las Vegas almost as good as the Orlando version

I've stayed at the Excalibur and really liked it, can I ask what you didn't like about it? I've also stayed at the Luxor, Planet Hollywood, The Signature and Imperial Palace.
I'm very aware that the op stated that they were looking for a 'reasonably' priced hotel.

I wasn't a fan of The Excalibur.
It was nothing to do with the rooms - I've never seen one. Nor the eateries. It has everything to do with my shocking run of luck on a roulette table in their casino during my 2nd night in Vegas when I lost all of my gambling, eating, drinking and spending money within 30 minutes. Quite a significant 4 figure sum had gone and I only had another 4 nights to get through! |

If I was put off all the hotels in vegas I'd lost money in I'd never find anywhere to stay!
There's no doubt better paying hotels on the strip, Apparently the Stratasphere has better slots as do the hotels at Freemont street. We also noticed that the slots became a little 'tighter' over the weekends. Have to admit Although we love Vegas we are not big gamblers and I've yet to gamble at the tables - maybe in June I'll give it a go, possibly only roulette.

Me too. But for me there was a significant difference between a $100 or so loss in most places and a $5000 or so loss in Excalibur!
