We are thinking about it - is it on the entertainer?

No it isn't but there is a few AED off at greatdeals.ae for it. It mentions tickets will be courier though,so maybe only for Dubai residents

Anyone got a good idea for a 5 day itinerary?

Our must do's are the souks, dhows, the Burj Kalifa, a wee (and I mean a wee) bit of shopping, desert safari thing. Thinking we could take the metro down to the mall and do the fountains and Burj plus shopping in one day?

I quite fancy getting a taste of the Middle East by spending some time in and around the Creek, get a feel of "real" Dubai rather than the glitzy beach side of things.
An ideal day would be up early, breakfast then off out some where, take in lunch maybe back to hotel, laze for an hour or two round pool then out for a bite in the evening, sit somewhere and watch the world go by, have a coffee or perhaps swip a well made Whisky Mac.

All ideas welcome.

Have a look at Arabian adventures website - they have desks in most hotels and have a selection of desert trips from 2 hours to overnight stays. They vary from sedate to adventurous. The viewing platform at the Khalifa isn't at the top but it's still worth a trip. You could easily do the Dubai mall (next to khalifa), fountains and Khalifa in one day. For the fountains book a restaurant in advance that has outside seating. Make sure you ask to sit out and check they overlook the fountains. It can get really busy and that's the best way to get a clear view. Personally, I would avoid the mall and that area of a weekend (fri and sat in Dubai) and Thursday nights get really busy. A good way to see the city quickly is to take a dhow along the creek.
If you have time, you could take a trip up to Abu Dhabi which is less than an hour. Taxis are really cheap and readily available.

We loved the creek area. Get the water taxi over, wander round the souks, breakfast in a wee cafe (egg parathas), walk along the creek and watching them load boats sky high with tyres, washing machines etc. We sat in an outdoor type cafe there and has fresh juice and samosas. There were about 40 different types of juices to choose from and they squeeze the fruit there.

Thanks Colette-S and Anniee.

The Dhow sounds a great way to get a better look at the city and get a feel of its vibe.
Anniee what you said you did sounds like just the thing that we'd enjoy. Taking a break and watching the world go by and about its business.
By the looks of it we will make use of the metro as the WTC station is on our doorstep, are there areas we should avoid or be wary of?

We're looking forward to seeking out Lebanese and other Middle Eastern restaurants and sampling some different cuisine.

One of the restaurants overlooking the fountains is a Middle Eastern restaurant. It is a chain I am sure but very good. I will have a wee look back and see if I can find the name. It wasn't expensive either, on a par with eating out here although I remember DH had an orange juice which blew the budget lol.
