My Second child now has a (probable) asd diagnosis 😢
My 8 yo daughter was diagnosed at 6. My now 6 yo son has had an assessment today and he too most probably has autism. I knew my daughter was, I expected it but my sons diagnosis has really floored me. I thought it was selective mutism and he was just quirky. He had the assessment today, he ‘failed’ a lot but was good at some. I’ll get a full report in the post. Consultant is almost certain he is autistic but wants it clarified with a special asd communication assessment by salt team. This will be done within the next three months. I can’t believe I missed it, I was so focussed on my daughter (I love her but she’s hardwork and demanding, son is so chilled out) I did nt notice his needs. Watching the assessment and listening to questions he was asked today it was so obvious. Kicking myself. I just feel a bit sad about it all really.
It won’t change anything in our house-they are both my two fabulously quirky funny children I just need to be more mindful of him as well now. Is it common to have a second asd child. I’m now more than convinced it’s me/my genes. They are both so similar to me. Sorry just needed an off load. |
