Explain pre-exsisting condition!
DD20 had open heart corrective surgery at 11 days old. She is on no medication, keeps very well but has two yearly hospital check-ups.
She is looking for insurance for working at WDW in the Summer. She contacted STA travel who will not cover her for a pre-exsisting condition, this is confusing me What is the condition? What will they not cover her for? Worries me a bit as does it mean they will not cover for anything to do with her heart?

I think, to be sure, she will need to call around and explain the circumstances but with something like that, you wouldn't want to chance not being covered. I agree, it sounds as if the risk will be low as so many years have passed and maybe you will find a company that sees it that way too but heart surgery in the US will be very costly to the company so they have a vested interest to cover themselves if that makes sense... I know it is unfair
I did a quick search for the definition and it appears that most companies have their own definitions but this is a general one: A pre-existing medical condition is any medical condition you had prior to becoming a customer of a new insurance company. You do not need to be currently suffering from the condition for it to be pre-existing. |

They will not cover her from any medical problems she may occur due to the heart as it's a pre-existing medical condition. Look around for insurance that will cover it. They are out there. I would type in travel insurance for people with pre-existing heart condition.

A pre-existing condition is any condition for which you have had prior investigation, diagnosis or treatment so yes I think you'd say that was a pre-existing condition. If there is no current treatment or symptoms then most insurers would take this into account when offering cover. Just because one will not cover it doesn't mean none will, you need to shop around for the best deal.
Without cover it would mean that any claim that could be in any way related to the pre-existing condition would not be paid. This can be a bit of a grey area and with heart problems an unpaid claim even just for routine cardiac investigations could mean a huge medical bill. Personally I'd be looking for another insurer who would cover this even if it means paying an additional premium. Have a look at the suggestions in the sticky thread at the top of this forum and get some quotes with full cover. |

Thanks Lynn
Just had a good quote from Nationwide including pre-exsisting condition. Will keep looking for the best one.
