Wheelchair rental
Hello everyone,
Can anyone give me any adivice on renting a wheelchair in the disney and other parks (universal , busch gardens etc). My mum is going to need one due to the amount of walking were gonna do and the fact that she suffers with her knees with arthiritus. Just was wondering how it works as she rarely needs to rent one in england becoz she can cut down the amount of walking she has to do. DOes she need to take her disabled parking permit ? or does this mean nothing in America ? Thanks Everyone |

I've just moved your thread over to the Special Needs Forum for you.
It's pretty easy to rent a wheelchair in each park though you do need to get to the entrance of the park from the car park first which can be a bit of a walk from the disabled parking areas especially Magic Kingdom. There are a couple of wheelchairs that are there that you can use to get to the park entrance but are a first come first serve basis and cannot be relied upon. You will find a lot of information in this thread on hiring wheelchairs. If you intend to use a disabled parking space at any time you will need to apply for a Florida temporary parking permit, all the information is in this thread, it's really easy to do. Caron

Would she not consider an ECV, which would give more independence?
If she prefers a wheelchair, and sometimes uses one in the UK, I'd cost out buying one of the lightweight ones & taking it with you. As has been said, it can be a long walk even from the disabled bays. |

Hi, I organised my own wheelchair out there. I used Randy's Mobility (just google it). I phoned them on arrival in Orlando and made arrangements for it to be delivered to our villa the next day and they picked it up again at the end of the holiday. It works out much cheaper than hiring one every day in the parks
