Any Computer wizzes? Windows 10/ Skype problems

Hi was wondering if anyone could help/ has any suggestions.

My kids both have laptops with windows 10 home.

They have both downloaded Skype and initially it worked well.

It has now stopped working and the error message is that the internet speed is inadequate (or words to that effect). This is nonsense as I can run skype from apple products , my macbook and iphones etc.

They need to have skype to access education properly so this is hugely frustrating.

I've tried uninstalling / reinstalling etc, but to no avail.

Anyone got any ideas?

Check it's not the firewall on the device blocking Skype.

Can’t help with your problem, but I stopped using Skype because of poor quality/freezing/dropouts etc.

Never looked back since converted to Apple...FaceTime works much better... and Zoom for work seems very reliable.

thanks, I will check firewall.

I think the benefit of skype is the fact you can file share and watch links while still 'chatting'. I'm not sure that's possible on Facetime? The tutor cannot download zoom on her work laptop so that's a no goer sadly.

It they want to use Microsoft products then teams would be better than the user version of Skype.

Teams is currently free.

Google meet is another good option.

Zoom are currently scrabbling to make themselves secure. But shouldn't be an issue for a school as long as they use the private meeting option.
