Forums for Aspergers teens?
DS18 is having a bit of a hard time socially at college at the moment. I think it would really help his confidence if he could take part in a forum for fellow sufferers. I've found a couple of forums but they don't seem to be very busy - the same few people posting in every section. Can anyone suggest a busy forum suitable for an 18yr old Aspie? Thanks.

Sounds like a really good idea! Sadly my DS refuses to see there is anything different, so would not help us. Not aware of any, but id suggest looking on Autism uk

It depends on what his interests are too.
For example, my interest is Disney, so I come on here and feel normal and safe in the knowledge that I'm not the only person insane enough to think about Disney and Orlando 24/7.

My DS loves gaming. I think the trouble is if he joined a forum he would get upset if someone did not agree with him. He has yet to learn to see things from other peoples point of view so I would think a forum for him would be very difficult (unless, of course, everyone agreed with him .

My son is exactly the same, he loves his x box and unless you agree with him, he too becomes upset. I think a forum would be difficult for a lot of young teenagers.

It's gaming that helps my sons socialise. When it's all online, it reduces a lot of the complications of communications.
There are lots of facebook groups for people with autism or parents

I think it was Autism UK I found. Lots of useful posts like 'does anyone else feel like this?' 'does anyone have this problem?' etc etc, but seemed to be just 3 or 4 people posting not very often, wouldn't do DS' confidence much good if he posted a question and had to wait a week for an answer
He does use forums to do with his interests, not sure he actually posts, just reads, but I thought it would be useful if he could 'talk' online to others his age who might be experiencing the same sort of things as he is. I'll mention Facebook to him, but he doesn't really use it so probably no go.

Just throwing it out there, but if it's the experiences and hardships he wants to discuss, I could talk with him if he has an email address. I'm around his age too. Until you find something more suited.

Wrongplanet is pretty active and is very friendly. It has children through to older people(like 50+) and all parts of the spectrum so covers lots of things. It has sections for pretty much everything, general autism discussion, video games, movies, sports etc etc Love and dating and the adult issues/discussion are a bit weird so I avoid them but the rest are very good.
