I think I was up pretty quickly and they let me go as my Dad was there with me.
And yes, if you have sedation you must have someone picking you up.

Had sedation, don’t remember a thing till the very end when I did wake up gagging but as soon as they removed the tube I was fine. Cuppa and a biscuit and I walked out escorted by a nurse half an hour later

Very envious of you all who had sedation and didn't remember a thing.
This year I had a gastroscopy and Colonoscopy following each other. I opted for and was given sedation but I felt totally awake and not drowsy in the slightest and experienced both fully ! Not pleasant 😖 I had to have a repeat gastroscopy 6 weeks later and once again i felt no sedation effects at all 🤷. Each time I walked out of the hospital within 30 mins feeling absolutely wide awake! Did wonder if perhaps the sedation drug was drastically reduced to get people done and out quicker. Not what I was expecting at all I was anticipating feeling semicomatose at least ! Hope you get fully sedated OP 🤞

I've done it with the sedation and with just the throat spray. Kudos to those who say that they don't remember anything while under sedation. It must be an individual thing about how much sedation you are given because I remembered most of it which is why I then tried the throat spray. Keep in mind that whatever choice you make, 24 hours later it will just be a memory

Just to add to what everyone has said, I worked in Endoscopy a few years ago, so many people would say to me that the sedation hasn't worked, yet when I saw them in recovery afterwards, they couldn't remember a thing
The throat spray doesn't taste nice (yep we all tasted it so we knew what we were talking about) but it does help as it numb your throat, will just mean you can't drink for 30 minutes afterwards, which doesn't really impact on anyone

Some people are sedation resistant. I went in for an endoscopy but couldn't have the throat spray due to allergies so they gave me sedation. It did nothing. They abandoned the procedure and I had it done under general anaesthetic a few weeks later. I've since had sedation for another procedure with the same outcome and have been advised to tell future doctors that sedation isn't an option. The original endoscopy team were lovely and stopped very quickly when they realised it wasn't going to be possible.

I have had 2 in the last 10 years. the first time i had the throat spray and it was not good at all.
Second time i opted for sedation and had no issues at all. To be fair its easier all round even for the consultant if you have the sedative.. your only knocked out for about 15 mins if i remember right. |

I just had my 2nd one today and was very very anxious…. The staff in the unit were amazing though, when I was taken through on seeing how sacred I was the consultant gave me the throat spray…. Loads off it in my mouth and them more righty down my throat…. I suddenly felt like I couldn’t breath but they calmed me down and asked me to lay one my side and promised to then give me maximum sedation allowed. I just listened to their calming voices and tried to breath , the consultant then said I am now adding the sedation just close your eyes ….. and that was it cannot remember anything else until it was all over and I was being given coffee and biscuits.
And within another 15 minutes I was walking out of the hospital with DH Even with the max sedation I was home again in 2 hours |

I had one on Tuesday and it went better than I thought.
I opted for throat spray and sedation. I felt drowsy and out of it but was awake the entire time and was watching on the screen. I was relaxed though. Although it wasn't pleasant I wouldn't stress if I had to have it again. I was able to leave half an hour later with my brother who took me home. I would advise to take the sedation 🙂
