I do despair at the work of some professionals
I thought I had seen most things in my line of work until today. I went to do a aerial at a property for a landlord ( he brought the house a few months ago so this was done by the previous landlord electrician). I was told there was a amplifier in the fuse box cupboard this was at ceiling height. I got my steps and found the amplifier and it had been wired directly into the fuse box, the light was off but when I moved the power lead the light flickered on. From what I could make out the connections must be lose inside the fuse box. Luckily it had its own fuse so I switched it to off and advised him to get his own electrician to look at it and remove it safely. I wouldn’t mind but there was a spare switched spur next to the fuse box why didn’t he use that.

How incredibly dangerous
One of the issues DH is seeing is that people who have never previously done a line of work (in his case Painting and Decorating) believe that they can set up a business trying to cash in on the pandemic and lack of tradesmen due to them being snowed under. My DH mate is a builder and he will not go to places now to fix other people's mistakes which have been done on the cheap. He has enough of his own work to do than fix bodge jobs. We are still getting calls "Can you decorate a hall, stairs and landing next week?" When DH is booked 8 months in advance , I do gently tell people that if you can get someone next week I would be highly doubtful they had regular work and to ask if they have a portfolio, but in many cases you can tell they don't really believe me. So it is even more worrying that Electricians etc are doing this type potentially lethal shoddy work. |

Have you seen those professional snagging videos? It shows how some new build houses have been literally thrown together and the workmanship in some cases is horrific and often dangerous. I will try to find a link to a video. Found one…
