Brett, Jo & Marceline's Festive Adventure - Day 2: Fights, Food and Handbags

INDEX

Our day started at 5:45 am when Marceline woke up... we bundled her into bed with us in a vain attempt at getting an extra hour or two’s kip, but unfortunately she didn’t go back to sleep, so by 6:15am we were all up!

The plan of action for the day was to walk to Disney’s Hollywood Studios, stay there ‘til about 1pm then head to Disney Springs for our lunch ADR at Homecomin’. Then, after a few hours rest back at our resort, we’d spend the evening at Magic Kingdom. Because there were only a few attractions we planned on doing while at DHS, we’d decided to book our day’s FPs for MK instead. This meant we realistically needed to be at DHS for rope drop, or as soon as possible after.

With the plan set in place, we split the mornings duties and, while Jo was showering, I gave Marceline her breakfast of Apple and Cinnamon Cheerios (which she devoured in no time and then promptly asked for more). When Jo was almost ready for the day, she went downstairs to get us a Bounty Platter while I gave Marceline a bath and then covered her in suntan lotion.

As I was finishing up, Jo returned and took over with Marceline while I jumped in the shower.
We were both in sync and every was working like a well-oiled machine… oh if I only knew how quickly that would change on the way to DHS!

Outfit number one… all white… not a good idea!

Outfit number two… much better!

Jo and I picked at the Bounty Platter and Marceline was dancing around the room occasionally stopping for a bite of Mickey waffle, or the cherry danish Jo had grabbed as the side/snack to go with the QS meal. We eventually left the room around 8:30am and I managed to not smash Marceline in the head on the way out… which is a plus! We got downstairs to the lobby, Marceline said hello to Lilo and Stitch and we then walked out into clear blue skies and brilliant sunshine. Ahhhh today will be good!

So what happened in the next 20 - 30 minutes wasn’t my proudest moment, but as I always do with my TRs I put everything in, and that includes writing about me being a horrible jackass and losing my temper with Jo. The cause of this argument? It started because I thought Jo was worrying more about other people, than her own family. Jo’s one of the sweetest, kindest people you’ll ever meet… generous to a fault. This sometimes causes me to be angry when I think people are taking advantage or not being appreciative of what Jo’s doing for them. Today though, it was more to do with her being overly cautious and worrying about if we were ‘getting in people’s way’... which wasn’t the case as we were simply walking along the huge, wide pathways to DHS.

It started when a gardener/maintenance guy in golf buggy was driving up behind us as we were walking across the bridge by the Swan and Dolphin. There was enough room to fit three or four golf buggies across this bridge side-by-side, but Jo was swerving to the left like we were in the bull run in Pamplona. I told her not to overreact and there was enough room for them to drive across at the same time. We were already pretty far over to the left, so any more left and we’d be off the bridge and in the water. Then no sooner had we got over the bridge and there were two joggers coming towards us. Now Jo was swerving the buggy to the right. “What are you doing?” I asked.
“They’re running… we’re in their way”.
“Balls to that… they’re running on a pathway… not a specialised running track... they can run around us!”
I told Jo that she needed to stop worrying so much about every other person and just worry about what we were doing. Two minutes later and we were disagreeing again… this time about which direction we were going! It sounds stupid writing this down, and probably seems really petty to you reading it, but this had been a build up of her (seemingly, to me) being too concerned about everyone else. I flipped and told her if she was going to be like this all day she should just go back to the hotel. Then I took Marceline in the buggy and carried on walking along the path to DHS… leaving Jo standing there. Not very nice I know, and it’s a horrible thing to do, but I needed to calm down. After walking for a couple of minutes I turned round and saw Jo was walking miles behind us… but she was (thankfully) coming to the park.

Marceline and I got to the security check, and and after they’d checked through my bag, we waited between there and the magic band readers for Jo. She arrived… and I was still annoyed. This was not how I’d pictured our day when we were all in sync this morning! We stepped aside from the queues and had a quick chat. I implored Jo to be just a tiny bit more selfish, and to not worry so much about everyone else. I gave her a kiss, told her I was sorry, and we joined a queue to enter the park.

As I said when I started writing this bit of the TR… it's really not my proudest moment, and the argument was unnecessary. But in that moment, it felt like I couldn't take what she was doing anymore. Jo and I are a normal couple… we never really have arguments… we have little ‘tiffs’ which are normally about stupid things that are forgotten five minutes later. I know I could have left this bit out of the TR, but it happened, so it’s staying in. I’ll get back to the day in a second, but I just want to say that after this incident… we didn't argue for the rest of the holiday and everything was as close to perfect as it could be (with a toddler in tow!)

So, back to the day… we were in the queue to get into the park and there were three or four people in front of us, and probably ten or so behind. Directly in front of us was someone in a mobility scooter, and when the people in front of him moved on after scanning their bands, instead of going to the furthest scanner, he stopped at the first one. I saw no point in walking around him to try and use the other scanner as he’d most likely be finished before I was, then he’d have to try and maneuver his scooter around me with Marceline in the buggy. Then, out of nowhere, this old lady walked past all of us in the queue and started using the other scanner!
“Excuse me… excuse me… hey… excuse me… we’re all queuing… HEY… LADY…. E X C U S E M E ! ! ! !”
She totally ignored me… but the CM standing by the machine was now looking at me and asked what the matter was.
“Well my problem is that woman ignoring all of us queueing, and jumping in front!”
He looked at her, looked back and me… and did or said nothing! He was an older gentlemen too, and just seemed baffled by what I was saying to him. She finished what she was doing and casually walked into the park as if nothing was wrong. As I scanned my band, I asked the CM why he didn't say anything, and again he just looked at me like I was speaking a foreign language! The woman who jumped the line had stopped a few yards inside the park… so I walked over to her. “Excuse me… you know you just jumped the line, right?” She could hear me… but she didn't look at me, she just turned to the side as if I wasn’t even there!

Given that I'd just come off the back of a blazing row with Jo, my blood was boiling again at the brazen rudeness of this woman and how the CM chose to do absolutely nothing. Would the same thing have happened if it was a younger person pushing in… or a younger CM at the turnstiles? Probably not. But this sort of behaviour was something that we would see consistently over the course of our holiday, and experience a lot at the Beach Club resort like nowhere else! (But those tales are for another TR day!)

We hadn’t done Star Tours when we were at WDW in January, so it was on our list to do this trip. We headed that way, and Jo went on first while I walked around with Marceline in the buggy taking photos of the decorations. I have to say, I was very impressed with all the old-school looking decorations that they had around Echo Lake. There was a really cool retro vibe to them, and I was looking forward to seeing what the area would look like when it was all lit up at night.

We got back to Star Tours about 15 minutes later and saw Jo waiting outside the attraction. She said it was a walk on for her… the CM had said she could sit anywhere she wanted and, oh, she was picked as the Rebel Spy (she told me that very matter of fact!) My turn on the attraction wasn't as laid back, and I didn't get chosen to be the Rebel Spy. I did, however, get to visit one of the new planets from the new The Last Jedi movie (the one that looks like sand but is actually salt, and there are red crystals just under the surface of salt).

When I came out, Marceline was asleep in the buggy so we decided that instead of going on any attractions (not that there’s a lot to choose from anyway), we’d just wander round the park and take some pictures. As we were walking back past Echo Lake, Jo stopped to look at the menu for Gertie’s. There were several items on the menu that she liked the sound of and said she wanted to try at some point. Just look at the excitement on her face!

After having a little walk around the Star Wars store and taking in the horror of the Disney Junior area, we hastily left and headed back towards the front of the park. We were walking up Sunset Boulevard to have a look around there when Jo spotted a woman carrying one of the Disney Dog Dooney & Bourke bags walking into the Once Upon a Time store. These had sold old ridiculously quickly the day before, with the line snaking back hundreds of metres! (Seriously, there are clips online of the queue and they’re ‘Flight of Passage’ type length!) I suggested going over and asking her where she bought it from, in case it was some random location we’d not thought about. Jo wasn’t sure about this idea, but we started walking over towards the entrance to the store.

As we walked in, there was a display table with lots of Christmas merchandise on it. Jo walked past it not paying any attention, but I stopped dead in my tracks. “Jo!” I called out loud enough to get her attention, but quiet enough not to wake up Marceline, “look!”

And there, dead centre of the display table was the Christmas Dooney & Bourke bag that Jo had been looking for but had been told was totally sold out! There were three of them in the large size that she normally gets, so I told her to stay there by the table and I ran off to find a CM to help us. (They’re always security tagged and ‘locked’ to the display so you have to ask a CM to unlock them to look at them properly.) The store was pretty packed and it seemed like every CM was busy with other guests, so I just waited by the counter. The CM behind the desk was wrapping a Christmas ornament, and it was taking FOREVERRRRR! Eventually she was finished and I told her I’d like to buy one of the bags on display at the front of the store. I walked back with her, and Jo is still beaming from ear to ear. The woman asked which one she’d like, and Jo pointed at the one at the front. She then blew Jo’s mind by asking if she’d looked at the other ones at the back of the store, including the other size. What? WHAT? Another size? You have more?

The woman lead Jo over to the counter, and there off to one side was another three of the large tote bag, but also a couple of rails of a smaller size. She picked the tote she wanted (one of these ones, apparently it was better than the one at the front of the store) and said “Oh my god… I’ve got to message Vicky and tell her they’re here!”

Vicky (who I mentioned in the Travel Day) had been chatting to Jo in the lead up to the holiday about these bags, and how much she wanted either this Christmas design or the Dog design. She thought she would probably miss out as they’d surely be sold out by the time she got to WDW a few days after us, so Jo had offered to get one for her if we saw them. She’d said she really wanted to pick out her very first D&B bag, but, as they were likely to sell out and Jo didn’t mind, she trusted her to pick a good one for her (remember, it’s all about the placement!)

So now Jo was messaging Vicky telling her the good news, and as this was happening other people were buying the bags! While the messages were flying back and forth between the two of them, I saw two of the Christmas bags being paid for at the till… the number to choose from was getting smaller by the second! To read about this from Vicky's POV, you’ll have to check out her Trip Report... but from my side of things, I could see bags disappearing and Jo receiving questions like “what size is the smaller one?”

Finally, Vicky chose the size she wanted, Jo chose a nice one… and all was right in the world! While this had been going on, I’d taken a look around the store at the Christmas merchandise and found a jumper I wanted that I’d not seen anywhere else, as well as a Chip & Dale Christmas stocking for Jo and a Hatbox Ghost stocking for me. We also picked up an extra Hatbox Ghost stocking for Helen, as she’d messaged me saying she wanted to get one for Andy as a surprise, but hadn’t managed to sneak away from him to buy… so I said we’d grab one for her and send it on once we were home. All in all it was a very productive (read: expensive!) little shop… and Marceline had slept through it all!

We left the store and all the excitement had been too much for poor Jo’s bladder and she was desperate for a wee. I said I’d meet her over by the FP+ kiosks near the fountain, and walked off in that direction. Instead of just standing still, I thought I’d walk around a bit in the hope of keeping Marceline asleep a little longer. It was clear she was still catching up on her sleep and could do with a little longer. As I was looping back on myself I spotted a CM outside Keystone Clothiers, and in her hands she was holding one of the Dogs D&B bags! I quickly walked over to her and asked if they had any in the store, and she said they did, but only a few that had come in that morning! I raced into the store, went to the very back and saw that they had a total of seven bags… four little ‘flat’ bags, and three small, slightly square/boxy bags.

Knowing how much Jo wanted one, I was freaking out (for her, obvs)! I knew she wouldn’t want the flat bag, so I looked at the placement on the square bags, and when I’d decided on which was better, I called over a CM. I asked them to hold the bag for me behind the counter while I went to find my wife and bring her back to the store!

I went back outside and eagerly waited for Jo where we’d arranged to meet. When she arrived I think I blurted it all out in one go without pausing or breathing!
“IwaswalkingandIsawtheCastMemberhadtheDooneydogsba gandshesaidtheyhadtheminsidesoIwentinandtheyonlyha dmediumsizedonessoI’vepickedoneandputitasideforyou tolookat!”

Somehow, Jo fully understood and she did the big eyes look that she reserves for being angry or being super excited. We’d done angry earlier, so I was pretty sure this was happy big eyes! She went into the store, the CM behind the counter handed Jo the bag and she was all of a flutter. She was looking over the bag, and then went to look at the other ones on the shelf. She said I’d made the right choice about placement but now had to message Vicky and let her know there were dog ones available too! “I have to let her know… she wanted one as badly as I did!” And so the messaging started again.

I didn’t fancy being present for another bout of messaging though, so I took Marceline to look around the rest of store. She’d woken up in the past few minutes and just sitting eye level to a load of jewellery was boring for her, so she was trying to climb out of the buggy. We walked around the store, and it was just all clothing and accessories… so she was still bored. I walked out of that shop and went into Mickey's of Hollywood opposite, hoping to distract her with toys. As soon as we walked in, she became a lot more animated and excited on seeing the large Last Jedi display. She was pointing and saying “birdie… birdie… daddy birdie!” What she was pointing at was the huge collection of fluffy Porgs. (I'm sure you're all aware of what a Porg is by now, since the film has been released and there have been a million memes with them in!) She really took a shine to the Porgs, so I hand one to her and she immediately clutched it to her chest, cuddling it. After a reaction like that, I couldn’t walk out of there without him! She didn’t bat an eyelid at anything else, and was totally transfixed by this Porg, examining every detail. The big eyes… the little feet… the fluffy wings. I took it to the counter and the CM could see Marceline didn't want to let go of him, so I managed to take the tag off without Marceline flipping out, and handed it to the woman to scan. After paying with my Magicband we walked back to Jo, who had finished talking with Vicky, and was now in the process of choosing one of the flat (foldover, I’m now told) bags for her.

She was talking to a couple of CMs about the placement on the bags, and they managed to settle on the best one for Vicky with Pluto, Lady and the Tramp, and the Dalmatians all quite prominent. Next it was time to check that the bag I’d picked out was definitely the one she wanted, so another discussion about favourite Disney Dogs was had. “Hold on one second!” said one of the CMs, and she vanished out back. Two minutes later she appeared with another bag. “I knew we had one more out back as it didn’t fit on the shelf with the others, and I think this might be the one for you!” She handed Jo the bag who turned to me with a big smile. This one had Stitch, Pluto, Lady and the Tramp, and Max (from the Little Mermaid) front and centre. She thanked the CM and said it was perfect!

This day was becoming a real mixed bag of emotions! Great at the start, real bad for 20 minutes, and then back to being great again! Jo was absolutely overjoyed that, in the space of half an hour, she had managed to get the two bags she desperately wanted but had been told had sold out! Jo hadn’t even noticed Marceline with the Porg, so I explained to her what just happened in the other shop.

After all this excitement (who knew D&B bag shopping could be so thrilling?) we decided to grab a sugary snack from Sweet Spells, and introduce Marceline to something we thought she’d love… Mickey cake pops!

Just for the record, I’d like to say that even though it may appear like we were only feeding our daughter sugary treats, she was actually grazing on fruit and vegetables for a lot of the holiday… as well as mini babybels, digestive biscuits and anything else we’d packed in the backpack for her!

Jo saw a Christmas tree whoopie pie she wanted to try, but I didn’t choose anything myself, and just said that I’d share Marceline’s cake pop. We got her the red velvet cake covered in white chocolate, and once purchased we took a seat outside to tuck into our snacks.

At first Marceline didn’t really know what to do with the ‘lolly’, as she kept calling it. The chocolate was quite thick, and she wasn’t biting through it. That was my cue to jump in and show her what moist cakey delights were waiting for her just below the surface! (Oh boy, I love these little snacks... I need to get more of them into my mouth-hole in April!) Once she saw the cake goodness inside, she started digging at it with her finger and putting little bits in her mouth. “Mmmm, nice!” You’re damn right it’s nice, kid!

I tried some of Jo’s whoopie pie, and I wasn’t wowed… there was a peppermint flavour that wasn’t doing anything for me, but she really enjoyed it so that’s the main thing! We were a little thirsty after our sweet treats and decided it was about time to be leaving, so the plan was to grab a Starbucks then head over to Disney Springs. I got the Strawberries and Cream frappuccino, and Jo got a Vanilla Cream Cold Brew… and because it was early in the holiday we both wanted to make the most of our Snack Credits and went for the biggest size possible. As we left the park, having only been there for a few hours and only going on one attraction, I realised it had actually been one of our more enjoyable experiences at DHS in recent years!

Because buses don’t go directly to Disney Springs from the parks (until later in the day, anyway) we figured we’d get a bus to Saratoga Springs (our true home in WDW) and walk to DS from there. As we got close to the stop we saw a bus sitting there. Jo said “Argghh, nuts! We’re gonna have to let this one go and wait for the next one… we’ve still got our drinks and we can’t take them on the bus!”

We stopped by the benches outside the roped off queue line, and the driver could see us pointing and discussing this exact point. She got out of the empty bus and called over “you going Saratoga Springs?” I said yes… but then pulled a sad face and pointed at my Starbucks cup. She beckoned us over, saying “you look like sensible people, just take them on… but please don’t spill them or leave them on the bus!” No m'am we will not!

We thanked her for the tiny (but lovely) gesture, folded up the buggy and headed to the back of the bus. As you can see, Marceline was still hugging that Porg to death… and that little toy would become the thing she took to bed with her every night over the course of the holiday! (And still does today actually! I say that... if you're reading this in five years time, she might not still be doing that, but as I write this on 2nd Feb 2018, it's true!)

We got to Saratoga Springs and with Marceline out of the buggy, the usual ten minute walk turned into a 25 minute walk as we interchanged between letting her run about on the pathways, carrying her, and holding her hands and and pretending we were all running (which for Jo and I meant walking at a normal pace with a few sound effects!)

Continued...

We were still over an hour early for our ADR at Homecomin’, so after a quick walk through Uniqlo (eyeing up their new cool T-Shirts) and briefly stopping in Stance to appease my increasingly ravenous sock fetish (yes, of course I bought some new pairs!) we walked round to the restaurant to see if they could seat us early.

They could, which is great because I was starving and Marceline was getting ratty again because nothing had passed her lips in at least an hour and a half. We’d heard nothing but good things about Homecomin’... and there were lots of items on the menu we wanted to try, so picking exactly what to order was going to be tough. Our server came over, introduced herself and asked if she could start us off with some drinks. I went straight for the Iced Tea Moonshine (with souvenir mug) and Jo picked the Cherry Gin Fizz. The server went off to get our drinks, but returned quickly with some paper and crayons for Marceline.

Our drinks arrived soon after, and both were delicious! My straw was at the very bottom of the bottle (where all the alcohol was sitting) and after a big sip, my head nearly fell off! Oh boy… this was strong! I stirred it with my straw and took another gulp. Much better! The alcohol was now evenily distributed and though I could still taste it, the drink as a whole was much better. Jo’s drink was just as dangerous… hers didn't even taste of alcohol… which could be even more lethal as you could drink quite a few and not even realise you were getting spanked!

We were now ready to order, and after much deliberation we picked our mains... Art’s Famous Fried Chicken for me, which comes served with creamy mashed potatoes and a cheddar biscuit, and the Braised Short Ribs with creamy mash and grilled corn succotash (which is maize and lima beans) for Jo. We didn't order a meal for Marceline as we figured she could have some of ours.

We did, however, order a starter to share... the Church Lady Deviled Eggs! After seeing a video from the DIS Unplugged where they were singing the deviled eggs’ praises, we had to try them! It wasn’t long before they were brought out and they looked amazing. Marceline seemed most interested in sticking her fingers in the yolk and nicking the crispy bacon off the top of each egg The reviews for these things weren’t wrong… they were delicious!

We only managed to eat one each before our mains were brought to the table. I wish we could add a scratch ‘n’ sniff option to Trip Report photos, because I can’t do justice to how great our food smelt. It got better though because, as good as it smelt, it tasted even better! It's probably the best fried chicken I’ve ever eaten. And there was so much meat! I was pulling off huge chunks for Marceline and there was still loads left! She enjoyed it as much as me, and was cramming huge handfuls of white meat into her mouth (she’s definitely a carnivore like her parents!)

Jo made an equally bold statement about her meal saying it was up there with the best meals she’d ever eaten! And certainly on par with the best steaks she’d eaten. We were so pleased to be enjoying a meal that had been hyped up by every review we’d watched/read… it really didn't disappoint! I can highly recommended this place to anyone who's looking for a good family place to eat. This is without doubt one of my new favourite places to eat on Disney property, and one we’ll hopefully be visiting at least once every trip.

While we were eating, I started to think the moonshine was really having an effect on me, because our waitress (who was a brunette) walked out of the kitchen, but she had blonde hair! I asked Jo to confirm what colour hair she had when she was talking to us, and she says it was dark brown! It was only when I saw our server (with the brown hair) walk out of the kitchen thirty seconds later that I realised they must be identical twins!

When she came back to check on us, I told her I'd got confused and thought my moonshine had got me more drunk than I realised, because I'd seen her with blonde hair! I could tell she’d heard this a million times… and then called over her sister. I told them I was really sorry I made a bad joke, and I felt a little embarrassed to say the same old boring lines a million tourists have said to them day in and day out. They were so lovely though, and made a big fuss of Marceline, who enjoyed the attention.

When it came to dessert, we decided we were too stuffed to eat anything straight away but we’d take a couple of things to go seeing as they were included on the Dining Plan. I chose the Hummingbird Cake (a pineapple and banana cake with cream cheese frosting) and Jo went for the Hamilton County Chocolate Pecan Pie, which is apparently made to a 100 year old recipe. This was all boxed up for us, along with the leftovers from our mains, and after thanking the server (I really wish I'd remembered her name) we left and made our way to the bus stop.

We were only waiting a few minutes for a bus, but by the time we got back to the room, Marceline was having hissy-fits left, right and centre! We tried to get her to lay down on the bed, but she wouldn't settle, so once again, I laid down with her on my chest. She calmed down, nodded off, but as soon as I tried to move her off she woke up and cried again. Eventually I got her to sleep properly... but then I was tired too, so grabbed 40 winks myself! Jo (who wasn't sleeping) decided to take pictures of us enjoying a much needed nap!

My power-nap was much shorter than Marceline's… I only had about 30 minutes and then got up to help Jo get things ready for our evening at Magic Kingdom. After about 90 minutes Marceline woke up full of energy and ready to take on an evening of attractions. We left the room around 5:30pm and walked down to the bus stop. We’d decided to risk not taking a bag with us, so the pockets of my shorts were filled with a couple of nappies, nappy bags, a pack of wipes, and a little Ziploc bag of cheese savouries!

Jo was in charge of the buggy, but she’d forgotten to put Marceline’s water bottle in the basket underneath… which wouldn’t normally be an issue as we’d just grab a Dasani in the park and she could happily drink straight from the bottle. But wouldn't you just know it, while we were standing at the bus stop, Marceline started asking for a drink… over, and over, and over! We felt like such bad parents… and unlike at the Saratoga Springs bus stops, this posh hotel doesn't have a drinks machine. The departures board was saying the bus would be arriving in around five minutes, which wasn’t enough time to run back inside to the shop to buy a drink, so we decided she’d have to wait until we got to the park. As every minute passed, the arrival time for the MK bus got one minute later too… but nearly 25 minutes later we were finally on our way with one very thirsty little lady!

As soon as we were through the turnstiles, we bought a bottle of water and with Marceline’s thirst quenched, we tried to make our way down Main Street... but we just couldn't move! The castle lighting ceremony was going on and it was chock-a-block! Trying to get down and round to Fantasyland was almost impossible… and it got even worse when, after ducking through the Emporium and back out next to Casey’s Corner, the show finished and everyone was trying to exit the hub at the same time in every possible direction. I have honestly never experienced a crowd like it in WDW. With the buggy in front of us, I was really concerned about Marceline getting squashed. People were walking into the buggy, trying to cut in front where there was no space, and then shooting dirty looks when their heels were being clipped… it was horrible!

Eventually, it started to thin out as we got round past the Teacups and into Storybook Circus. We parked the buggy and used our FP for Dumbo. There was virtually nobody in the queue so it was almost a walk on. From there we went round and onto the TTA (which again was a walk on) and after we’d finished on there, we knew we had to get something for Marceline to eat.

Unfortunately that meant going to Starlight Cafe and getting she some chicken nuggets. Both Jo and I were still full from the large lunch we’d had, but we ate a few of the chips and a nugget each, while Marceline devoured the rest.

At this point it was 8pm, and the park was really busy. Extra Magic Hours started at 9pm, but as we sat there, watching the endless stream of bodies walk by, we had to decide whether to cut our losses and leave now so we’d miss the rush when the normal park hours ended, or stick it out, wait for EMH and hope it got quieter. We had a FP for Haunted Mansion, so we decided to do that and then just call it a night. The FP queue was basically non-existent, and we walked straight down to the part where it joins the standby line. We managed to get into the Mansion when the doors next opened and after an uneventful ride we collected our buggy and made our way towards the front of the park.

As we were walking down Main Street, I turned to Jo and said “I know you got that smaller dog Dooney earlier, but why don't you just quickly pop into Uptown Jewelers and see if they've got the bigger size you really wanted?” She told me they probably wouldn't have it, but I said we should look anyway… just in case they’d got more after selling out on the release date. She seemed a bit put out by my suggestion, but nonetheless, crossed the street and walked in the store. And there… sitting alone, locked to the stand was [b]one[/] of the dog Dooney bags, in the size she originally wanted! Her eyes went big again and while she stood by the stand, I went off to find a CM to help. The woman came over and Jo said she’d like to look at the bag. The CM then said “do you want to come to the counter… we've got a few in the drawer if you’d like to look at them?” Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat?!

Apparently, they’d had a late shipment of them today. They weren't expecting them to be as popular as they were so they were trying to get stock to the parks as quickly as possible. The guy at the counter got four different bags out of the drawer, and Jo studied them until she found ‘the one’. “What about my small one?” she asked me, and I suggested two things - sell it on Ebay, or return it next time we’re at DHS. She said she’d like to return the bag, giving someone else who really wanted one a chance to get it… instead of profiteering and making money on top of what we paid. (Ahhh Jo and her wonderful moral compass!) We paid for the bag and, instead of having it shipped back to the resort like we had with most other items we’d bought, we took it with us and left the park.

We didn't have to wait long for the bus back to the resort, but it just sat at Yacht Club for such a long while that we decided to get off there, and walk round to Beach Club. This wasn’t ideal as Marceline had fallen asleep on the bus… so Instead of putting her in the buggy and potentially waking her up, I just carried her. We briefly stopped in the lobby to take a few pictures of the Christmas Village that was on display before walking to our resort.

When I got back to the room I noticed these big blue marks on my legs. I’d experienced this before. It was the dye from the Disney carrier bags rubbing off on my legs, as I’d covered myself in Lifesystems insect repellent before we’d left the room as I’m prone to being a walking feast for bugs… and it literally steals the colours from plastic carrier bags and applies it to my legs! After some gentle scrubbing in the bathroom it all came off By the way, if you too get bitten, then buy this product. It’s amazing and I’ve never been bitten since I started using it at night when going out in Orlando. (This isn’t a sponsored post, I promise… I just bloody love this stuff!)

We got Marceline out of her clothes and into her PJs but unfortunately hadn’t managed to do it without waking her up. She was exhausted, but we had to settle her again before putting her down for the night.

She wasn’t the only one who was exhausted… Jo and I were also feeling really tired. But not so tired that we didn’t sit on the bed eating our desserts from Homecomin’! My cake was absolutely delicious… not too sweet, but really moist and light. Jo’s pecan tart was good too, but I don’t think I could’ve eaten a whole piece. To be fair, both desserts were massive and neither of us managed to finish them. So they went back into the fridge, and we got ready for bed, after what had been a long, incident filled day.

Day 2… done.

What a rollercoaster of emotions today. I know I said it earlier, but the start of this report was tough to write. I know all couples argue, but then actually putting it down on paper (so to speak) doesn't feel good… regardless that the incident happened over two months ago. In fact, I was writing a lot of this day on my journey to and from work… and I got home one night feeling guilty, because I'd basically just re-lived the argument so it was fresh again… and I felt like a terrible person! Jo just laughed at me when told her!

Anyway, bad stuff aside, I understand that today was probably quite a boring read. I get that handbag purchasing isn't exactly an extreme sport… but it certainly felt that way today. I'm just happy that Jo was able to get exactly what she wanted by the end of the day.

Thanks for reading everyone, and thank you for all the comments on the previous posts. I promise Jo and I read the all… and I will go back and reply, I promise. It's just that we’re trying our best to get this report written, edited and posted before we’re off on our next adventure in April.

Hope you’ll come back for the next instalment where we hit the Florida Mall and then spend the evening at Animal Kingdom to see what all the fuss is about in Pandora!

Hope to see you all soon and remember… I love you byeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee xx

I hope you paid for both of the bags as an apology 😂

Homecomin looks and sounds great, we’re staying onsite in September and this is definitely on my places to eat at list. Glad it didn’t disappoint!

Bless Marceline, she does so well staying up. I hope Ava is that good when she’s older. Does make me laugh that you hang out in the hallway of your room until she’s asleep! ☺️

Thanks again for sharing, looking forward to reading the next instalment!
