I’m out here now. Using a mix of three data and free Wi-Fi.

Quite often I’m switching my Wi-Fi off as it’s so slow and the 4g is faster. I can’t complain at all.

Oh good to hear it uses 4G. I'm not from the UK, but I fly from Gatwick. My home carrier does not have add-ons for the US, so I was wondering what to do. Might pop into a 3 store to get one. I bough my phone from a retailer, so I know it's unlocked.

I'm with Virgin Mobile at the moment but will be switching to Three shortly. A no-brainer as they have an unlimited sim (data, texts and calls) for £20 a month at the moment. The fact that Three have roaming in the US is a lovely bonus

Sorry but confused, If you get a 3 PAYG sim (£20) do you need to also set up a 3 account to activate roaming?
Or can you just make a call in the UK before you leave and then it’s activated?

As soon as you put the sim into the phone, the 30 day countown will begin as it will activate automatically.

The reason I (and probably most other people who get the free sim) would go down the free sim route and put credit on is that you can be very flexible when you activate the 30 day validity of the addon.

Vodafone is unlimited use - entirely - with the best 4G and no throttling in the USA.
The cheapest you can get this currently is £23 a month for a SIM only contract.

No faffing about with Add-Ons like Three.
Three also massively throttle the speed

Vodafone throttle their data. The £23 a month plan you mention is limited to 2Mbps. It's only truly unlimited on the £30 a month plan. That's also the only plan that includes data use in the US.

Spot on. All changed a couple of weeks ago, only available for new contracts now on the Unlimited Max plan at £30 pm or £36 with entertainment.
