Northerners! Trains!

From anyone up North?

We’re flying from Heathrow on 20th August and staying at the Travelodge near T2 the night before.

I hate the heathrow drive home, and heathrow parking must be the most expensive in the UK!

Toying with the idea of the train there and back, Darlington to Kings Cross, and then onto T2. 3 1/2 hours.

Super off peak return is £200 for the 4 of us (not 12 weeks in yet)

Does anyone do this regularly, or have you previously, any opinions, and will the date get cheaper if I wait til 12 weeks in?

Thanks in advance.

Do you have railcard? We personally have a two together and seems to save a 1/3 per journey.

I’m originally from Hartlepool and now live in East Sussex so done the kings cross to Darlington trip a few times! It’s not as bad as a drive I must admit and given the choice for holiday would probably book the train. Try and see what fares they release at 12 weeks and try and break the journey down sometimes works out cheaper x

I do Kings Cross quite regularly, just not onto Heathrow, with the wife and 2 kids in tow with the luggage

That's with a family and friends railcard. I don't think it's expensive at £50 per person return. Parking alone would be £80, then fuel and 1-2 hour longer journey time, and a tired drive at that after the flight home, at least I can stretch out and chill.

Think my minds made up, just don't know whether to book now or chance waiting.

The cheapest fares come out exactly 12 weeks before, so try and be ready to book on that day and I think it will be much cheaper than £200.

We regularly fly from Heathrow and live in Cumbria. Train to Euston then BlackBerry cars, private transfer to premier inn on bath rd, £30, £35 for return due to parking costs at LHR. You'll probably need a bigger car as there's 4 of you. Can't be bothered with suitcases, tube etc.

I'm waiting for advance tickets to be released for our June holiday and once booked will then be booking BlackBerry cars when I know the pick up time

If you are coming in to Kings Cross on the train then the tube will be simplicity itself, even with cases. You're right there, and the tube is usually very empty at Kings Cross with lots of seats - it's only later in the journey that it gets packed.

We always travel into Kings Cross (on Grand Central) direct from Hartlepool and last month when we were down we said we'd do this if we ever fly from London - it looked so easy. We actually said we would go down the day before and stay at KX Premier Inn overnight.

Eaglescliffe can sometimes be cheaper than from Darlington.
