Ascension day - how bad?

To make DLP affordable we tend to use an inset day around May half term and take the kids out of school for a couple of days. We’ve noticed that this time in 2020 falls over Ascension Day. Is it worth avoiding that day and doing a different time of year or is it just that one day that gets busy?

I saw photos online of ascension day this year and it was awful. You couldn't see any space in the crowd, and the photo was of Frontier Land, not people waiting for the parade or anything. It made me go 😱 no joke! X

At the worst it could be level 10 crowd levels. Ascension day is on the Thursday and they will also get the Friday off as a bridge day, you could expect large crowds from the Thursday to the Saturday, I personally would try to avoid those dates.

I know that May half term is reasonably quiet as it tends to be only a UK holiday but it is also classed as high season, so is not that cheap.
Could you go during Easter holidays, if you time it right the price can be cheaper and the crowds okay?

Is there a particular season you would be interested in?

Thank you. We usually go for five nights and six days so based on these dates we’d be there on the Thursday and go home on the Friday. Sounds like the last two days would be terrible! I will look at Easter time and see how that compares.

We were there some years ago when Ascension Day fell during the UK half term. Never again. It was rammed with every European country seeming to descend and bridge the weekend. Was just too busy compared to what we were used to that same week.

We were there for Ascension Day this year, and yes, it was manic. Two days earlier was calm and quiet. Ascension Day was packed and people were not prepared for it to be packed so there were a lot of Mr Grumpy Gills about.

Extra Magic Hour was still lovely but when the park opened to everyone, it was a lot of people. We were fine since it wasn't our only day and we basically did all our rides in Extra Magic Hour plus a fast pass or two later in the day and otherwise just watched shows and parades. Fine when you have more days or know you'll be back, but really frustrating if it's the big day of your holiday.
