Any teacher that thinks it’s ok to treat a child differently because their parent has complained should not be teaching. It’s ok to be annoyed by someone complaining about you if you aren’t in the wrong but if you are in the wrong you suck it up you certainly don’t start taking it out on children. OP was right to raise it with the teacher, if someone doesn’t make you aware of what you’ve done wrong you won’t learn and will possibly make the same mistake again. There is a big difference between raising a concern and saying you are upset about something that’s happened than being a “problem parent”. If OP had gone in there shouting the odds and making threats that’s a problem but that’s not what OP did. |

If you don’t want people to take things personally, stop making assumptions about how you imagine ‘teachers’ react to parents. Become a teacher, then you can have your say about how they treat children. Speaking to others who are in that profession is only hearsay and gossip. You can have an opinion about the way children are treated in an individual school if you have worked there and seen it first hand. To make gross generalisations about a whole profession with no personal experience to back your points up is useless to anyone reading your comments as you have no real idea if what you’re saying is true or not.

There is a huge difference between venting and taking it out on their child, that’s the part that most people are disagreeing about.

Indeed ," plenty of teachers" vent , just like other professions do and when mixing socially "war stories" about awful parents make amusing stories BUT it's a massive stretch to say that means teachers treat their kids differently and I suspect those "plenty of teachers" that Tspill knows would be horrified that their "stories" had given the impression that they were unprofessional or discrimatory in their interaction with their pupils .
(Opinion based on not just socialising with teachers but also as co workers ... just shows you need to be careful who you vent to ! ) |
