Work clothes
This may seem a bit of a daft question but where do you get your work clothes from and what sort of thing is appropriate? I’ve worn a uniform for work for the last 27 years but am now moving into general practice as an advanced nurse practitioner so will be able to wear my own clothes. I don’t know where to start! I realise it’s quite ridiculous a grown woman having no clue what to wear but it’s not something I have ever had to consider for work. I’m also pretty short so that limits things a little. Thanks for your help.

I'm an LSA and although it is a pretty messy job I'm supposed to dress as a "professional", so I guess similar to yourself. I wear a lot of tops and skirts or smart trousers from Next and M&S. I'm between height in Next as 5ft 4. I don't buy much that isn't washable otherwise my dry cleaning bill would be astronomical. H&M have some great blouses as do Zara and occasionally New Look. I don't wear heels as on my feet a lot so its pumps or boots for me. I also have a whole drawer of lightweight M&S/Next cardis in plain colours so can throw them on or take them off as required.
I wish I had a uniform, life is so much easier with them. Hopefully at least you won't have to get up and down off the floor or crawl under tables to catch a kid actually maybe you do have to do that

Been there I actually found it hard to start with still wanting short sleeves pockets for pens etc
Have to say it but most of mine trouser wise anyway came from M&S Next and tops from there and where ever I saw something suitable Although I did and still do wear some fancy scrub tops picked up in Walmart even wore them when I retired from nursing to work in the floral trade In fact I’ve got a Mickey Mouse one at the minute Good luck with the new job |

Thank you, a bit of shopping is in order I think! Next is a good call I’ll be able to get some petite trousers from there. I struggle a bit with blouses with gapping around the buttons so will have a look for some smart tops. I’m hoping for not too much crawling on the floors lol, although you never know!

Zara and Warehouse are my go to for work clothes. I used to like Oasis but haven't seen much I like in there recently.

whilst you dont have to wear a uniform it can look more professional to your patients - perhaps you can continue wearing one? This will save you money and effort.

I often go on to the clearance section of the Next website and get lots of work clothes bargains. Definitely worth a look.

Primark! Honestly I’ve had some brilliant work clothes from there. Most of mine come from there. M and S have some lovely things, but they’re too expensive for me.
Peacocks also have some nice work clothes.

I’m a teacher - Next for trousers and I also get a lot of stuff for work from Very now. I’ve found their V by Very range fits really nicely and they have a style guide you can use as well.

The practice nurses wear uniforms in the surgery but the advanced nurse practitioners don’t as they have more of a gp role. It’s established in the surgery and the patients seem happy and understand the differential in role. Would’ve saved money certainly but I only work part time so don’t think it’ll be too costly.
