I was in my first year of secondary school and one of my siblings told me as they thought I knew and was just playing along. I disliked that Christmas a lot, it felt like the magic was gone, luckily I have since returned to believing and now love Christmas again 🥰

Had to tell DS when he was first year in high school. (He is an August birthday so was young compared to his year but still old compared to other kids I guess.) He was absolutely heartbroken. 😢
My youngest is now the same age and I know he knows but he plays along and I play along and I definitely prefer his reaction.😅

I was around 5 & remember telling my mum & dad that I wasn’t silly & knew the presents from ‘Santa’ were from them!

I look forward to seeing your tree on my Show us your Xmas tree thread. Hopefully you can get James to believe a bit longer. My dd must have been in about year 5. Not even sure how the conversation came up but she then questioned the tooth fairy and I just told her it all in 1 go. Luckily it was about June so I had time for her to get used to the idea before Xmas and she still played along. We still put snacks out and reindeer dust and she's now 15 and still loves Christmas. 🎄🎅

This was me as a child too! I thought the whole idea was impossible and wouldn't have understood why my mother would lie to me when I told (rather than asked) her. She says I told her not to worry I wouldn't tell my younger brother.

OP, as your son is smart and serious I wouldn't try and convince him. Just bring him in on the secret to help keep other children believing in the magic.

8, but mum backtracked because my little sister was born 😂 I think officially it all came out at 10.

But we still love the magic of it. My dad still checks to see if Santa’s been on Christmas morning 😂 we’re now 28 and 20.

I did not believe in Santa by age 7, I actually remember quite clearly pretending to for my parents I would have been 6yr 8m in the December. I think it is mean to suggest his present count will be down if he doesn’t believe, he can’t help what he thinks

No idea lol my eldest is 15 and never said santa does not exist (I think my eldest 3 all know, but they will never say 10,13 &15)

Just too add in my house all gifts dont come from Santa, Santa brings some and we bring some. I have always done it that way in case they find any gifts!
