As for meat causing suffering and death, I agree and I accept that cost.

I buy rice, tropical fruits, clothing, electronics, pharma and a never ending list of products that cause suffering and death of humans all over the World. I accept that cost too.
There's a big difference between religious beliefs and facts.

You're right that buying other products, including plant based food/vegan products are possibly also causing suffering and death of humans all over the world. However, there's a difference between buying a steak that we know for sure caused suffering and death, and buying broccoli that might have caused suffering and death.

Have you ever seen footage from a slaughterhouse? Or how a dairy cow gets impregnated/raped and then has her calf taken away from her? It's disgusting, and I don't believe the vast majority of us would be able to do it.

I love the term 'flexi-vegan' it succinctly sums up the fact that humans have evolved to be omnivores that eat meat, grain, fruit and vegetables but just not necessarily at each and every meal.

I applaud the OP's aim to eat 'sustainably' - we dramatically need to cut down on the amount of travelling some of our food does and ditch the soy, quinoa, mangetout, berries, fruits and meats that are imported into this country.

Eat local, eat seasonal - eating grass fed lamb from down the road is far more sustainable that importing millions of tonnes of soya beans each year to be processed for tofu and soy milk. And nobody needs to buy strawberries 24 hours/day 365 days/year. Local and seasonal and less processing. Eat simple.

Everyone different so no judgement here but on a personal note. I worked in the industry I worked both in chickens and cattle and pigs all so sheep I packed and killed all it did not put me off eaten meat but for those that do and it works for them then good luck to them.

I love the term Lamb also... do you mean a young baby... ? or is that just too extreme. Most lambs go to the slaughter still suckling from their mothers... I would rather have the soy thanks.

Oh don't be so silly - a young baby lamb has absolutely no meat on it. Lamb is usually about 10-12 months old at slaughter and are typically weaned at about 3-4 months and are most definitely not 'still suckling from their mothers'. Most people cannot tell the difference between a 6 month old lamb or a 5 year old sheep in the field.

The only animals routinely killed young for food in this country are chickens - still at the chick cheeping stage - but no-one really cares because chicken is cheap and they're not as attractive as fluffy lambs and cute calves so far less anthropomorphism and emotive language is used.

Why not do it now? Why wait?

ETA this was in response to watching 'videos'. The quote thing failed (am blaming the quote thing of course, and not my technical ineptitude )

Nope, I don't find that type of television entertaining.

Or particularly factual, well-researched, and often not even pertinent to UK food production practice. Which is why you should eat locally produced food, not food hauled halfway around the world.

Agree completely with this and that is what we are trying to do.
