I had to drink no alcohol for 7 days due to antibiotics a little while ago. I really missed having a drink every evening for 6 days... then DH pointed out my antibiotics had finished a week before, and I’d still not had a drink. I’d just got into the habit of moaning about not drinking instead of pouring one!
Good luck - I believe you can make it (alternatively you could schedule a lot of special occasions )

I think it's often more about habit than alcohol.
It's s habit to go straight to the fridge when you get in and "reward" yourself with a glass of something. If you can replace that with maybe a walk round the block etc it'll be easier to do IMO. We never drink mon-fri and rarely at weekends but we are off for tea at the Ritz on Saturday with our neighbours so it'll be champers on the train, maybe a cocktail on John Lewis roof garden and defo bubbles with dinner.👍 |

I have no intention giving up alcohol as I like it!
But I have come off wine for a number of reason. I was drinking far too much when cooking in the evening The weight was piling on The cost was silly So my strategy was to buy a jigger to accurately measure and have two single shots of gin only. I have a single gin and tonic, then a glass of tonic, then another single gin and tonic. That amounts to 14 units per week which is acceptable I think a bottle of Gordon's lasts me circa 2+ weeks. Tonic is cheap in Asda. BB I wish you well in your venture. Good luck.

It depends what you mean by special occasions. It could be:
Monday celebrating the end of the first day in work with a glass of red wine Tuesday celebrate a successful day in work with a beer or two Wednesday celebrate a relaxing evening in with a favourite tv show and a glass of wine Thursday celebrate after a good session in the gym with a vodka and coke Friday celebrate the end of the week with a G&T Saturday is party night so celebrate with some cocktails Sunday family meal and a bottle of white wine But, only on special occasions 😉 Edited at 11:04 PM. |

I find if I have a non alcoholic sparkling drink in a wine glass I enjoy it more. I can almost convince myself that sparkling elderflower cordial is a glass of white wine 😀
I still drink alcohol but this helps to keep intake down on a week night. |

Definitely worth a try. I had a drink most evenings but don't drink at home anymore. I do enjoy a drink when I go out, not that I get out often!
I've just about given up sweets too. Now instead of a bag of crisps and something sweet at 5pm I have an apple. Good luck. |

I could give up alcohol but not sweet stuff. I went through a phase of not eating much chocolates and cakes in the summer but am back eating rubbish again. The 10lbs I lost is pilling back on and going for a meal up London tomorrow

I think it’s a good strategy and you’ll enjoy those things at Christmas even more.
I have been losing weight anyway but am currently making an even bigger effort before Florida. I’ll start with a G & T on the plane! Cheers! |
