Naples area and Key Largo
We are heading here in May after changing my mind from 9 nights at the Yacht Club. ( just back from Disney and going again in 2021).
We are staying in Naples at the Lely Resort for 6 nights and at the PlayaLargo Resort in Key Largo for 3 I’m looking for recommendations on places to eat with good food and a great view. We were in HHI in May and found the perfect combination of this. We like the odd really nice meal but also like just good grub. I want to do a trip into the Everglades and we plan to drive from Naples to Key Largo via the Tamiami Trail. I might also quite like to do a boat trip if anyone has done this. We love Palm Springs and Naples looks like a Floridian version, we are really looking forward to our trip. Any hints and tips are greatly appreciated. |

You will like Lely- have you got Player's Club access? One of my favourite places. Not sure about May, but in summer the restaurants on 5th Avenue all do deals as it is the quiet season. Very good ones there are too. You must do the Tommy Bahama Tropical Cafe- it is a Naples staple- where it started. At the entrance to Lely you actually have a good Outback and an OK Carrabbas. Drive towards Naples, and in the Venetian Village (Naples Bay I think its called officially) just before you get in to Naples, there is a very nice Bonefish Grill overlooking the water (opposite Olive Garden). It is tucked away and not easy to spot from the road. Go to Lowdermilk Beach that is very nice there in Naples. North a bit up Tamiami. Tigertail Beach in Marco (you are v near Marco at Lely) is great- do not be afraid to wade across the channel to get to it rather than walking all the way around. You will know what I mean when you get there.

Thanks. I had a look when I read one of your posts the other day. I don’t think so. We just booked via booking.com. I might have a look and see if I can re book something that includes it. Can I be cheeky and ask who you use to book?
It looks like a great location. Very close to Marco island as well. I’ve seen some places there I like the look of. I will defo have a look at the Tommy Bahama. I love their stuff Edited at 06:06 PM. |

I have always booked my Naples Villas through these - naplesvillarentals/city/naples/

Hi there we stayed at Lely Resort this year, we had a condo there booked through HomeAway it was fantastic. It overlooked a lake and was near the pool. Would love to go back. We ate at the outback which was really good. We also had a quick bite in five guys also near the entrance. Lots of places to eat around and about. Have fun.

Loads of restaurants in Naples on 5th Avenue and 3rd st south. Bistro 821 on 5th is fab, Tommy’s on 3rd is great especially at Happy Hour. Ridgeways just off 3rd is also great. We spend time in Naples every year, I’ve done a few trippies if you want to take a peek. A villa owners trip report is one, While Shepherds watched their flocks, we’ll fly to Florida is another

Another who's stayed in Naples. Inn of Fifth last summer then just this summer past we stayed in a villa in Lely. Beautiful resort. If you are looking for restaurants close by I too can second the Outback Steakhouse. We ate there twice. For cheaper meals LoBrow Pizza on the Tamiami traill, really tasty pizzas. Also Brookes Burgers (the original one just round the corner from 5th avenue). If you like brunch then head to Jane's.
If you want to see gators/turles in the wild head towards Everglades city, towards Miami, turn on to HP Williams Wayside. There's a small car park (with facilities if you need the loo) and a boardwalk. There are gators and turtles for you to see, or drive your car up the track, the waterway runs on and off the length of the track and you may see gators along the way. We did this both years, saw lots of gators up the track the first year but didn't see any this year. We did see them in the big pool at the boardwalk though both times. You are also just a few minutes away from the smallest post office in USA if that's your thing. I posted a postcard to my dad from here. Really nice guy in the hut. I didn't notice at the time (DH did) but he photo bombed me! You can also do an airboat road from Everglade city. |

Hi Sandra, we take the 41, not the Tamiami. On the 41 you can stop off at the Oasis Visitor Centre to check out the alligators if you wish. Stay on the 41, on the very outskirts of Miami, at the first set of lights you come to after the Everglades City lights, turn right and drive straight where you eventually drive through Homestead, keep going straight don’t turn off, when you come out the other side of Homestead, you turn right onto the 1A to Key Largo. If you want to get some lunch, at the Everglades City lights, on the right, is a garage with a Subway, we call in there and pick up a Sub and usually eat it at the Oasis. The good thing about the 41 is it’s relatively quiet and you see more than you would on the Tamiami. You also drive past the Indian reservations and their casino.
