I drink alcohol on most holidays, and enjoy a few drinks at home on a weekend. However, on our previous trips, I have only had 1 or 2 alcoholic drinks. Mainly as they are so expensive, but also because we are so active there is no time to relax at bars with drinks. I also find alcohol dehydrates and in the Florida heat, water or soft drinks are better.
I will take advantage of the included alcohol in the ddp but I don't think I will want alcohol with every meal. Even if I did, 2 drinks a day with each meal are not going to get me drunk. I am unlikely to use my 18 yo DD's allowance on alcohol, she can choose her own unalcoholic drink with her meal. What I don't understand is why drinkers or non-drinkers are judging others for drinking or not. Each to their own, everyone is allowed to enjoy their holiday their own way. I agree that getting drunk to the degree of falling down, or affecting other's enjoyment is unacceptable and Disney, as any bar should, refuse to serve alcohol before it gets to that stage. It is a case of a few silly people spoiling it for responsible drinkers, who then get frowned upon for having a couple of drinks. |

Could it be too that people aren’t including alcohol costs because it’s not actually food? The OP is asking about additional food costs.

I agree, alcohol isn't food and if budgeting, it is easy to not buy alcohol and save money. As I said above, we have not bought much alcohol on previous trips mainly due to the very high price of alcohol in the parks.
But drinks have to be consumed. I find the heat very dehydrating and find we consume more water or soft drinks and cold Starbucks drinks than we would at home. I know iced water is free, but many people find a lot of extra cash is spent on cooling drinks as some don't like water or simply get fed up of just water. So I think drink prices should be included in food costs if the op wants to work out how much extra she will spend. I know we will spend very little on food on ddp, but do feel some extra will be needed for drinks. |

I agree but it may be that people genuinely aren’t spending much more on soft drinks. There are only 2 of us and we generally manage by sharing and using water fountains to not spend much more on drinks. We do usually go to Walmart and buy a crate of water though.
