How much easier would life be if the company they actually worked for rewarded them by paying them a decent wage. I know it's not the 'American' way though - so I am in the camp that will pay what I want, and what I feel the service I have received deserves, and not what the bill and hand drawn smiley face dictate.

Quite agree Pegasus.
$40 for serving a table of 5 for just fetching food, tidying plates away and bringing some drinks. It's obscene to me. I would want to pay $10 for the service, $2 a head. |

Disney staff don't share or pool tips as I know a few servers and have asked.
They do however have to share a % of the tip if drinks come from the bar during the meal and the computer works it out automatically. A busy restaurant tends to have 1 barman doing all the drinks for the servers. He/She can make a lot! Some servers unofficially give a backhander to the Busser so their tables get their food quicker.

I am swaying towards your way of thinking, the last time we ate at CP the food wasn't great (not that it ever is), the server slow and the character interaction was the pits.
Taking the character interaction out of it (assuming they actually do interact), then we would rather eat a breakfast at dennys or a dinner at longhorn for a fraction of the price, have better quality food, table service and if we want character interaction do it at the parks. |

Those aren't the only options. You are not restricted to either 18% or 20%. The amounts on the bill receipt are merely suggestions; you can give whatever amount you wish.
