I have done both the express pass purchase and this year we stayed at Portifino Bay Hotel, with 5 of us it worked out cheaper to stay at the hotel and i don't think i would go again without staying at a universal hotel, it was great and as others have said you can go on rides many times wereas the express pass you can only go on each ride once.
We are back over a week and the average queue was 60 mins.

We too went a couple of years ago when the express passes were free, i was disgusted this easter that they wanted an extra $50 pp , for the three of us that would have cost another £75 for the day, on top of us already buying universal tickets! it kind of left a sour taste in my mouth , felt a bit exploited and for that reason we are just going to disney and seaworld next year. Its not fair to pay twice or wait for hours in lines.

I agree it is a total rip off. We will not be buying Universal tickets next year either as its not worth the money. For us it will be Disney and SeaWorld.
At least the old way was fair this is just a money making scheme for Universal as some others have said we have already paid a lot for the initial ticket and then they want you to pay more? |

7 day park hopper for Disney: $271.58
7 day park hopper for Universal: $85. That is a difference in price per person of around $190. Even if you purchased express for all 7 days, it would still likely be cheaper per day than Disney. Express pass for one park ranges from $20-$45. There are only nine days in the whole year that they are $45. There are 10 days when they are $35 and 50 days when it is $25. The rest of the approximately 300 days of the year, the express is $20. So you do the math: One 7 day ticket at Universal: $85 plus 7 days of express at $20 equals $225. Compare to 7 days at Disney for $271 where you run around all day to get free fastpass. Even with that, you are lucky to get fastpass on 4 rides a day. Disney may not charge you for fastpass but you still pay for it in higher ticket prices. Edited at 04:37 PM. |

Whilst I understand you may want to defend Universal your argument is flawed by comparing two parks with four parks. It would be fairer therefore to compare Disney with the four park flex ticket at $195.
Also everyday of the 21 days I am there, not one is a $20 day and in fact you are using the one-park express price not the two-park. On the cheapest 2 park ticket it is $26 x 7 days = $182 + $87 = $269. If you take my trip on the best possible 7 day scenario add another $35. A Disney 7 day MYW hopper seems to be $248 on Disneys own site not $271 unless you add in water parks which gives more days One last point is the Disney ticket will last you 14 days and does not have to be used in 7, it can also be made non-expiring based on the number of days left over. |

You cant compare universal with disney they are two very different places, so there is no point comparing prices etc etc.
