Flights changed, advice please
I've just received notification that my flight times have changed leaving only 1:25 to change terminals at Heathrow, I originally had 3 hours to change. I am now booked:
LBA-LHR 11:05 - 12:20 LHR-MIA 13:45 - 18:15 MIA-TPA 21:35 - 22:43 Do you think 1:25 is enough time? I've had a look at other options and I'm tempted to see if they'll change me on to MAN-PHL-TPA. There are 2 options with this, a 2 hour layover at PHL or a 4 hour layover. What would you do?

The Minimum Connection time at LHR is 90 minutes, where the connection involves a change of terminals. You already appreciate that you will need to transfer from T5 to T3.
Since your connection does not meet the MCT I think that you need to call the people who sold you your tickets (TA? BA?). You could have all sorts of problems if you leave things as they are, albeit you could argue that you thought that this was a legal connection as the airline ticketed it. If you do get the PHL option I would go with the 2 hour connection. If you miss it the fallback of later flight(s) is appealing, although I appreciate that this would be subject to availability. There would also be a possibility of a re-route via CLT as a further fallback. Good luck |

Thank you, you have just confirmed what I was thinking. I will give BA a call tomorrow and see if I can do the PHL route.

I've just realised that I misread the details you've posted regarding the PHL flight. As the flight is from MAN this will be on AA metal. I'm not sure that BA will give this as an option... but there's no harm in asking They may just put you on an earlier LBA-LHR which might not be ideal due to a longer connection
I hope that you get a result |

There isn't going to be an earlier flight from LBA unless BA introduces a night stop flight to LBA, this is the first flight which they have moved later, it's a timetable change.
When this happens and a connection goes below MCT, it always takes a little while for BA to catch up with all the flights that need to be rebooked, but they would get to it in the end (I'm guessing this flight is not imminent, this timetable change is for summer 2018). However, there is no harm being proactive and asking them for your preferred alternative routing(s). There is no major issue for BA to reroute you on AA, since they share revenues on all transatlantic flights. |

Yes that's right, it was originally 09:30 but the timetable has changed to 11:05. I only know because I have alerts set up with Check My Trip, BA haven't informed me as yet. I'm on the latest MIA flight so I can't catch a later one which leaves the alternative of getting the 09:40 from MAN to LHR to make it in time. If I have to go to MAN, then the inconvenience doesn't make a 3 flight journey appealing hence trying for a reroute on a 2 flight journey. I'm going to call them and get a head start on this before everyone else gets there and nicks the seats.
Many thanks.

Yes it's always wise to be at the front of the queue to get first dibbs at alternative routes in these circumstances. Good luck.

I never wait but proactively contact the airline .
In your situation I'd be checking out all my options first as I know from experience often the airline's idea of the most suitable and mine differ considerably! As well as the BA only options and their partner airline AA flying from a regional airport I'd also run all my "other airline" options, like Lufthansa via Frankfurt or Aer Lingus via Dublin as things may have changed with them in the meantime and the flight change would give me the option to cancel and rebook without charge. One year my friend's teenage son announced he had "forgotten" to book holiday from work and his step father was resigned to losing his fare until a change popped up and we were able to cancel him off with Full refund. Good news. BA changed me without any fuss onto the MAN-PHL-TPA flight. No extra charges and much more convenient as only 2 flights as opposed to 3.
