1 day car hire advice please
We're looking to hire a car for just 1 day for out next holiday so we can get to/from our day at Wild Florida.
Never hire a car before so am completely clueless! Would it be best to book before we go or when we are there? What about insurance? What do we need and what are the extras that they will try to sell us that we won't need? We're staying at POR so the plan is to use the Disney Car Care Centre - is that the best one to use if staying onsite? Any help and advice would really be appreciated

Vickie. For your location the CCC is best. Just ring them to collect you at a convenient time to you. Its a 12 seater (or so) Minibus so you could all go if you wish.
At the CCC they bring the car to you unlike MCO where you pick your own. However 100's of cars there so dont accept a dog! make sure you do all the check in process before you leave the UK as its speeds up the process, driving license number etc etc. Always cheaper to book here IMO than out there Have a look at Alamo Brits, Usrentacar, Virgin Atlantic and Virgin Holidays (check the both sites as prices do differ) All use Alamo which is what the CCC is. If stuck please come back

That's brilliant, thanks.
What about the insurances? I've read on many a trip report about them trying to sell you extra stuff when you go to pick up.

Yes thats all you need for Insurance. They will try and sell you windscreen, breakdown, undercarriage damage, puncture etc etc Insurance. Never taken it neither do most Dibbers.

That's great, thank you Now to decide which car to choose. As it's only 1 day, thinking it might be quite fun to have a convertible.
Definitely going for the miles as my account is now empty after using them all to get us bargain flights next Easter (£543pp return during school Easter holidays )

We have always used Hertz.
On our last onsite stay at OWK, we booked for 1 day in middle of hols before we went - it was about £45. While out there we decided we wanted another day car hire, and booked on the ipad out there. It was £65 ish. So cheaper booking before you go. With Hertz, you get 10% discount for being AA member, and free driver, and earn Virgin Air miles - and we get around 15% cash back via Top Cashback. Their place is at Hilton Bonnet Creak (ops DTD) - we call day before to arrange for them to come get us (just me one time, whole family second time) - got to Hitlon, do paper work, off we go. Returning car- I drop family at OKW, take car back, and the bring me home. Sound like most places work the same, so I'd just go for cheapest price! |

Yes one night at SSR I spotted your post about buying miles and getting good flight prices. Well done!
Get the Amex card and pay for everything on it, fantastic miles offers! Your young! A convertible will suit! Not us oldies, we like Cadillac saloons!

Yes, going to get the cards - one for me and one for DH. I believe if you then cancel and wait 6 months you can reapply and get the bonus sign up offer again, so if that's the case then we might do that a couple of times to boost the miles. Not going again until October 2017, so have a while to save up
Think the children would really like the novelty of a convertible and the route to Wild Florida looks like mainly straight roads, so I think it will be quite nice
