We fly 1-2 BA Avios flights a year in CW/F to the likes of Tampa, NYC, California etc but also use an Amex 2-4-1 voucher so only have to pay half the amount of Avios normally required.

CW or F tickets are the very best use of Avios & can save £1000's (or £10,000s in the case of our last flight in First to San Francisco!)

BA guarantee 2 CW & 4 WT reward seats on every flight but these can be snapped up as soon as released at -355 days especially on the popular FL routes (easier on flights to the likes of NYC as they have so many daily flights) so you need to be ready at that time & check often for them.

HeadforPoints & Flyertalk are both great sites on how best to earn & use Avios.

I also use my Avios on Aer Lingus. Great value esp in low season. Under £100 each return in economy. We went to NY in Dec for only 52,000 Avios return for 2 people.

We used avios last August for return economy flights to mco. It cost us £1100 plus the avios.

I agree it’s not a great use so probably wouldn’t do it again.

Nothing particular to add, just to echo that long-haul economy is not a good use of Avios these days. Back in the old days when it was Airmiles and you didn't have to pay taxes it was great - literally free flights.

These days, either short-haul with Reward Flight Saver or long-haul in CW/F - especially with an Amex 2-4-1 voucher are the only good flight uses. I've never looked into non-flight uses.

Just to clarify, it’s 2 x CW and 4 x WT guaranteed on each long haul flight.

Definitely 4, but I've seen up to 9 seats released in business and economy on some routes/dates. Last July 5 of us got award seats from San Jose to LHR in business

Guys I am totally lost with all the abbreviations

I realise it is not a deal like it used to be but i am guessing still half price ? or would it be better to get our own flights and use the Avios for upgrade not sure 200,000+ will be enough for 5 adults
