I think a number of people overbook, and then cancel nearer the time... often even the day before to avoid cancellation charge. So I wouldn’t give up hope!

I’m always changing our plans when reservations I couldn’t secure originally are released the day before. People cancel last minute all the time, then you take the reservation and release the original booking you had and someone else snaps that up. It’s just the way it works in WDW. People overbook in advance because they’re unsure of their plans that far out and they know they can cancel 24 hours before without penalty. I’m sure you’ll secure what you need if you persevere.
