*car hire insurance*

long story short, got talking to a friend who Is a Florida regular and he mentioned that when booking a package deal with "free" car hire he keeps the basic car hire with them and books additional car hire with cdw elsewhere (worldwideinsurance) to be exact for only £50 for 2 weeks. this got me thinking as someone who always just pays for the insurance through the package deal at a cost of £196. surely this cant be right? there must be a catch that cant provide adequate cover or something? but as he has never had to claim on it so I guess ill never know if it works or not properly.

We looked at this but decided against it. I wouldn't want to have a problem and then have to negotiate between two companies with each trying to avoid sorting it out while I was three thousand miles away in the UK. So we always take the car hire company insurance.
Simply don't want a legal mess if there is ever a third party injury claim.
