$70 for a booster seat!

Just checked Alamo website regarding car hire and saw that a booster seat is an extra, not only that it's $70! Seems a bit steep to me, am I actually buying the bloody thing rather than renting it for a couple of weeks? Does my 7yr old need one by law in the US?

We bought one at Walmart for $12 and left it in the villa at the end of the holiday.

get a real cheapo one from Tesco / asda ( under a 10'er )

put it in the suitcase and take it out when you get to the US, this also free's up space to bring stuff back

we always plan to ditch the thing, but every trip we bring it to the airport and the check it in ( we always hope that they will lose it and we can claim on the insurance, they never do and it always arrives safe and sound LOL )

Take one from here you will need it as soon as you pick the car up. The rental car seats and boosters are not the cleanest anyway. We have a couple of little time ones from Argos that have little drink holder built in.

A 7 year old doesn't need a booster seat by law. Six and up just need a seat belt in a rear seat.

$70 is standard for most car hire companies. We always take our own, as has been said above, just buy some cheap ones and leave them there. We pack them in the suitcase - also guarantees extra space for bringing stuff back
