We've got the 14 day Disney tickets, so there's no way we'll get our monies worth from a 14 day Universal one also.

Is there any option to buy 2 or 3 day Universal passes?

We've got 21 day Disney tickets but I also want to visit IOA/US and found I may as well buy the 14 day ones as they're roughly the same price as the 3 day ones but you need to use them within 7 days. If you add Volcano Bay on, it works out even more expensive ($294.99 per adult).

I just bought 2 day base tickets (so no hogwarts express) 1 park one day for £159. via undercovertourist.

The also had an offpeak ticket for US I think at around $98.00 - might save even more money if you fall into the dates...

As I said in an earlier post, I couldn't find anywhere to book the theme park tickets, unless I am missing something.

Orlandoattractions.com have 2018 universal tickets, would need to ask whether you can do deposit though or may need to pay upfront. X
