Shein is very inexpensive but the clothes myself and my daughter have bought have been really nice and much better quality than we expected. There is so much on the site though it is difficult to choose. Order lots of items because we find the sizing is very strange and inconsistent. They refund returns within a couple of days and there is always a discount code to be found.

Quiz, clothes nice but took 3.5 weeks to refund.

I bought my formal cruise dress from John Lewis in a sale. I found a couple of dresses in charity shops and Deepop.

I'd look at TK Maxx, EBay and charity shops. I've borrowed off friends before now too. If this is an annual thing, I have found getting a plain but nicely cut dress and then going to town with costume jewellery or a beautiful wrap means you can wear the same dress around the same people a few times by switching out the accessories.

DH used to have an annual black tie Xmas do, it was my only opportunity to dress up and of course the same people there every year. I did once get to wear a dress again at a winter wedding. I'd love more chances to dress up..

If you are on Facebook join the group called PREOWNED BUT STILL LOVELY which is a second hand sale group. I've had some lovely things on there.

This reminded me of Marge Simpson and her Chanel suit.
