Credit Card with no foreign transaction fee?
Hi all
I have a monzo debit card which I normally use for card payments in the USA but when it comes to security holds like hotels and car hire it takes the amount from your card and you don't have it available to spend until its refunded at the end of the trip. So I'm looking to open a credit card for the security holds so it doesn't affect my available funds. My problem is that comparison websites for cards don't seem to specify whether each card has a foreign transaction fee or not. Can anyone recommend a good card company to look for directly? Thanks!

I have the Halifax Clarity credit card for my foreign travel.
I’ve never paid any fees. 😊

Halifax Clarity is highly recommended on here and other travel forums. I used to use this before my own bank removed forex fees so can recommend. But maybe check with your bank first, they could already offer this as many banks have removed this charge now.
MSE has a page dedicated specifically to travel cards. They currently recommend either Barclays Rewards or Halifax Clarity. moneysavingexpert/cr...-credit-cards/ Edited at 05:14 PM. |

I’ll second the Halfax Clarity card. The only charges are if you withdraw cash from an ATM but I avoid that by going online and paying off the card balance while on holiday. If you don’t use cash withdrawal there are no charges and you get a good exchange rate.

I use Halifax Clarity too. For cash withdrawals I have a Starling Bank debit card.

Nationwide, I have a credit and debit card with them and neither charge a foreign transaction fee.

Halifax clarity although weve often accidentally used our tesco credit card (as recently as last month) abroad and there's never been a charge.

We did have a Post Office but it’s now changed to Java with the same terms. My MBNA one also apparently is fee free and as said Nationwide.

Virgin bank account and credit card both transaction fee free. Can use both like you would at home. Also NatWest have zero fees.
