The Center Parcs and DLP Bonanza T-Minus 1 Day

Full Trip Report Index here:

There are certain days when it's perfectly acceptable to state you're suffering with wind. And today is definitely one of those days!

The original plan was to go to the Ellingham Show down the road from us at Ringwood, but Mother Nature had other ideas and many outdoor events including the Isle of Wight racing and festivals down at Newquay have been cancelled.

One thing I don't get: why is this not a named storm? During the winter months it seems every other flipping week we have Storm Bunty or Storm Dave.

But this is the storm that shall not be named. Storm Voldemort, surely

So on to on to the inevitable Blusteryday Plan B - a trip down to Poole to see the new Lion King movie.

We booked a morning showing, as it would give us the afternoon to do some last minute packing and check that everything fits in the car!

I have to say I had low expectations for the movie - remakes don't usually match up to the memory of the original. But I was very impressed - Timon and Pumba being the standout stars of the movie, especially the nod to Beauty and the Beast!

One thing that didn't work was the characters didn't emote - I guess lions, meerkats and warthogs don't - but it didn't feel as emotional as the original. That all said, it was darned good and can recommend to anyone who hasn't seen it.

Blusteryday's Bugbear of the Day: why is it that within (literally) 5 minutes of the movie starting the to-ing and fro-ing to the toilet starts? For pity's sake go before you sit down! Maybe there's a gap in the market for commode cinemas - flush and watch

And to add insult to injury, the whole family in front of us were more interested in their mobile phones when the movie was on - a quiet word in their ear (with some serious shade thrown back at us) and the problem was soon resolved. But why spend good money to not watch a movie? Some people are just plain odd [/RantOver]

And now to the main event of the day - packing the car 😂😂

Charlie helped Paula with cleaning and hoovering the inside, and then it was time for every man's favourite game: Carboot Jenga 😂😂

To be honest we have plenty of space to spare between the boot and roofbox but I can never tell until it's all in! There's the last minute bits and bobs to go in (mobile phone chargers and the like) but otherwise we're all done.

We're still tussling with the big questions in life such as: Does Paula really need to take three coats? 😂😂

You know what they say: there's no such thing as the wrong weather, just the wrong clothing. But sitting in the garden cabin with what sounds like a hurricane howling around us, I think there's definitely the wrong weather!

Oh well, there's nothing we can do. I was speaking to a guy in Halfords this morning who has the Poole to Cherbourg ferry booked tonight 😮 so I suppose there is always someone who is less fortunate than ourselves!

To be fair, we're really excited about the upcoming holiday and the weather will be what it will be.

Tonight we're having a chinese takeaway (a rarity in Blusteryday Towers) and then tomorrow a full slap-up breakfast before we head off on our roadtrip - first stop, Cambridge.

Well unless anything of huge note bubbles up, I'm signing off for the day. Thanks for tagging along so far, it's lovely to think there are some DIBBers joining us for the ride

Catch you tomorrow!

I’m looking forward to this.

Geoffa would have put in a lot of historic facts and the Chinese takeaway would have been photographed and described in minute detail. He was the master trip report writer and sadly missed.

The GDO you all organised were the best.

Safe journey, looking forward to reading along.

Ah thank you Nesbits! I agree, Geoffa's trip reports were always half travelogue, half food porn

The Grand Days Out were good fun - and the work Geoff & Darrin both put in to them was what made them so special. Very happy (and very rain soaked) memories

I'm up at the crack of a sparrow's cough as usual, everyone else is asleep upstairs. We'll be heading off to Airbnb number 1 of 4 shortly. Yay!
