We'll be staying at RPR for express passes the August.

If we can't use our Express Passes, will we get on ok just by getting early entry to the park?

Similarly to the many other 'how long is a piece of string' questions, is it really depends on the crowd volumes on the day. You may end up waiting an hour, you may end up waiting 3 hours. Who knows? No-one knows.

There's no park hours yet for August, no guarantee of early park entry even being for IOA in August.

Also factor in the tech issues that are seemingly inherent on this ride.

Too many variables.

Seems with or without EP, lines are shorter around lunchtime and early afternoon

There hasn't been early opening at IOA since opened they Hagrid's. I don't think it will change soon. Staying on site gives no advantage at all. We are just back from RPR and tried to rope drop twice - got there for 8am started queuing for 9 am opening at 8.55 announced not opening until later. So frustrating. Either risk rope drop but delayed opening isn't uncommon or try lunchtime/early afternoon . We seen queues mainly around 90- 120 mark (at a low crowd time of year) but occasionally dropped to 60-75 minutes. You have express for most everything else so I would resign yourself to one longer wait. It is worth it. We only ended up doing it only once in 5 days but without 3 young kids we would have waited 90 minutes more often.

Around lunch time is your best bet. We rode it twice this week, first time it was posted at 75 minutes and took 50, second time it was posted at 90 and took just under an hour. The day we took an hour the single rider beside me waited 30 minutes.
