Post Brexit travel insurance for 2021

Hi, has anybody given any thought to this yet?

I appreciate that there are very few places that will give insurance in excess of a year out, but some do.

What are people doing? For example European travel insurance policies may have to change if the E111 no longer applies (and I say if, because nobody really knows - yet. Yes I know what it says on this now but things often change).

The position with deals with US and elsewhere is even less clear.

But I am pondering how late to leave it - I don't want to be left with no insurance if I have made a financial outlay, but nor do I want to be paying a premia for any insurers uncertainty.

Annual policies are not really an option for us.

What are you all doing or thinking of doing ?

PS I want one for DIY and consequential loss.

Why would Insurance for trips to the US change ?

Leaving the Eu has no affect that I can see.

Can I ask why an annual policy wouldn't work op? Are annual policy is with LV never have any problems and the same cost as a single.

I'm not sure anything changes for travel to US and for Europe EHIC should never be used in place of good quality travel insurance imo to cover health emergencies.

As a family we have some pre existing medical conditions. Advice has always been to book single trip insurance for us so premia don't escalate as condition does. Works well for us.

I agree re E111. However, many travel insurances pay the difference between that available on the E111 reciprocal scheme and the actual costs.

Insurance companies are currently reconsidering their level of EU cover needed post Brexit but cannot confirm coverage until further details of deal are confirmed.

As advised by broker last week.

Iro US. Agreed, medical cover may be similar or the same but transport etc will be different dependant on the deal arrived at by December. There is still a cliff-edge option if deal not agreed. Insurers therefore again are not sure of the baseline they are insuring against. So premia are up because of the uncertainty (if you can get it for 2021 yet). Esp if over a year away.

Again as advised by broker last week.

So I don't really know answer, was just curious what others were thinking...

Worldwide travel insurance costs should not increase as Brexit has nothing to do with it. As to transport to the US again that has nothing to do with Brexit so change there either.

I am sorry, don't want to open the whole Brexit debate again, but things like the airspace agreements etc will have an impact. Only if we end up with a cliff edge. Plenty of time though until July to see how it's going.

There is a degree of uncertainty. Insurers by definition don't like uncertainty. Or can like it, but it will be expensive. Risk is different to uncertainty.

Re the USA this is nonsense. I’d get a new insurer if I were you. In November 2018 the Open Skies Treaty was signed with the USA, flights to and from USA will not be affected at all by Brexit. Medical expenses nor anything else to US is affected by Brexit. Insurers don’t like uncertainty but re travel to USA there is no uncertainty. I really do not know what is being said to you.
