West Coast Independent Fly Drive
Not really sure if this is the right place to post this...
This year we're thinking of visiting the West Coast for 3 wks, arranging everything ourselves. I've costed a 2wk Virgin fly drive tour itinerary and think we could do it ourselves for the same price, but have an extra week for the same money! Flying into LA, three or four days doing Disneyland, Universal, Hollywood etc., driving along the coast, venturing inland to see the sequoia forest, especially the General Sherman tree, Big Sur, Hearst Castle, Monterey area, Point Lobos... before spending some days in San Francisco seeing Alcatraz, Fisherman's Wharf etc, then driving to through Death Valley to Las Vegas and visiting the Grand Canyon before flying out of Vegas after a couple of days there... Anyone done this, or something similar? Any tips, websites, advice would be welcomed ! |

That sounds great to me but I'm afraid I can't be of much help. We've been to Las Vegas and see the Grand Canyon. That was awe-inspiring - something I'll never forget.
Enjoy. |

We did a similar trip. Flew into LA - San Diego - Grand Canyon - through Death Valley, Las Vegas, Mammoth Lakes, Lake Tahoe, Yosemite, Monterey, Carmel, San Franscisco and back to LA.
We booked a fly-drive and then just found hotel/motels as we went. Never had trouble getting anywhere - only time we had to make a 2nd choice in fact was Saturday night in Las Vegas when the Circus Circus hotel was full so we stayed nearby at the Travelodge. It is a great trip - you'll have a fab time. Angela |

Cheers Angela,
How long did you go for? I thought that flying into one location and flying out of another would give us more time? At present we plan into LA - Coast - SF - out of LV. Can you remember how long you stayed in the cities? How long it took you from place to place? About how many stops? Steve |
