Railcards?

This year we’re definitely doing a few Uk trips by train, does anyone have any experience of getting a Railcard? is it worthwhile? who do I purchase it through?

We end up with a Two Together railcard most years. Have tended to manage to get a much reduced one on Train Pal/Trip apps, so worth having a look on there.

There are generally discounts around if you have a Google, mostly 20-30% off all the most used railcards.

We have a two together. We bought it for a specific trip to York and it's more than paid for itself.

We can only use it when we travel together but that's mostly when we get the train.

I believe you can get them with Tesco Clubcard points.

Also disabilities enable you to get one which includes discounts for a carer for all travel. My mum has one because she wears a hearing aid and I've used it with her or her friend.

If you use an Oyster card around London, you can get it linked to the railcard too.

Does it matter who you buy the card from? is it the same card and useable on any train journey?

There are a number of different ones you can get.
My kids both have 16-25 ones bought with Tesco CC vouchers.
DH and I have two together also bought with CC vouchers.
There are also senior, veteran and disabled adult and child ones.
We live in the south east, so this week I’m buying myself a Network railcard as it will save be a third of my trip to London with friends. I’ll just get from railcard through the app as already have my 2 together on there.
Has definitely saved DD and DS a fortune

No it doesn't matter, it's the same card.

And yes, pretty much any journey (it will say if you can't for any reason).

You do have to stick to the rules of the Railcard you buy - so for example, with a Two Together you can't use it on your own, has to be the two people named on the card.

Depending on your circumstances, there are a lot to choose from.

I use railcard.co.uk
