I’m ready to buy my Two together railcard now, I’ve just read through all the replies, am I correct in thinking the only way to get a physical railcard is to buy it at a ticket office? and no discounts will apply? if I get an electronic version I can probably find a discount code somewhere?

we have Two Together railcard for number of years as our daughter studies in London

ours is on our phones

Was always used but recently it has been harder to get the best deals (not sure if less of them or we dont time it right) & its worked out cheaper in fuel to drive

You can buy a physical railcard online from the Railcard website for delivery to a UK address. There is a box for a code to be added so you might be able to search for one. It says allow 10 days for delivery.

Trainline and other retailers only offer the digital type, although discounts seem more readily available.

I have the digital one because of the better discount. If booking train tickets online, don't normally have to prove it, but if booking physical tickets at a ticket office, obviously have to show it.

I've only had to show it once on a train, that was a main line going to Edinburgh, though we were only going one stop. I've never been asked to show it on a local train. My point being, although it's a digital version, it's not as though you have to show it every five minutes, which (I find) can be a bit of a faff!

We have seniors railcards and when purchasing tickets at the station booking office were told we did not have to show the cards to book (guess which one of us left our card at home which is how we found out). We were also told you do not even have to have a card to purchase a ticket just have to have one when you board the train.

We used to have senior railcards but we then moved to two together. We usually buy our tickets online and keep them on our phones and only once were we asked for proof by an inspector. The only problem was that we had a couple of trips where we weren’t together so no savings on those trips. Now we don’t get a railcard and we wait for the promotions and we did one such trip last week in fact - 50% price savings.

Don't forget clubcard vouchers will get you a code to get it half price and you can order a physical card online (takes up to 10 days though)

That's handy to know. If I buy at a ticket office, I tend to have the railcard ready on my phone anyway, as I just assumed they'd ask for it. I actually bought our railcard early this year in order to buy a ticket. I would have hung on until we were about to travel if I'd known. Get a longer expiry date😉

Me again! can someone help me out please by checking I’m doing this correctly!
I’ve ordered our railcard via Tesco vouchers, but I’m very confused about booking our train tickets, if I give you the trains we want could someone check I’m doing this correctly please? looking at Trainline it seems to say we can get 2 first class returns for £79.99, that seems very cheap? I must be doing something wrong?
