Keeping an eye on everyone's tips, we will be there mid-October. Staying in Carmel and then Santa Barbara. From the various websites and facebooks I've looked at they really seem to be working so hard to get everything sorted, I feel for local businesses.

What dates are you there? Are you going North or South. We are in the area from the 12th to the 17th before heading to SF on the 17th ( my birthday)

Happy Birthday in advance. We are due to arrive in San Diego that day.

We are going North and staying mid PCH area inland from 4th. We will probably do day trip North on PCH as far as we can and then head back South.

We then head to San Francisco on the 7th. My intent is to drive to Monterey and then head South on PCH so we can see Bixby Bridge and then back North to SF.

Hopefully we will still see the main sights.

I don't think that you can drive to Bixby Bridge at the moment but I may be wrong. That's why I started this thread to try to find out if it's still worth driving some of Highway One with the detours that are needed

I think that there were some landslides as well as the Pfeiffer Bridge damage. I had hoped that the landslides might be sorted out sooner than the bridge repair and that Bixby might be accessible.

Obviously maybe I'm being too optimistic.

We are doing this road in a couple of weeks. Yosemite, Carmel then pismo. While in Carmel we are going to drive to the bixby bridge and back. Then have been advised to take the 101 to paso Robles then the 46 to cambria before driving to pismo for the best scenery

Bixby Bridge is fine, you just cannot get past the Pfeiffer Bridge, that's the one they are rebuilding, plus some State Parks are closed (Big Sur, Burns)

When DW and I were there at the beginning of April you could go beyond Bixby Bridge and get to just south of Big Sur River Inn which is about another 10 miles. Some of the scenery beyond Bixby Bridge is beautiful and the Inn was a lovely place for lunch
