Buying playstation4 in USA?

We are heading on our next holiday in July 2014. My fiance has been talking recently about getting the playstation 4. I know nothing what so ever about games consoles etc, but it seems very expensive!

I was just wondering if it is cheaper to buy these kind of items in the US and IF it would even work back home?

Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Thanks

Not sure of the price in the US, but if it is above the s=duty free allowance, you will need to pay duty.

US = $400 + sales tax

UK = £350

Running the PS4 through a duty calculator gives a total landed cost (cost of console + all duties payable) of £322

Personally, for the sake of £28 I wouldn't bring one back. The main reason isn't actually to do with any technical differences, which are minor and easily overcome, but with warranties, guarantees and the sale of goods act.

Buy in US and you'll probably need to use the worldwide manufacturer warranty if something should go wrong. Buy in the UK and that £28 gives you much more peace of mind, particularly the Sale of Goods Act and the responsibility of the retailer. This would be my main consideration as Sony had reliability issues after the launch of the PS3 and it could happen again once folks get their hands on the PS4 and start to push it.

Hadn't realised that. But is it dual voltage or would you need to buy a UK power adapter, that's if it has an adapter and not just a mains lead.

It just has a power lead and it's dual voltage so all that's required is a us to uk plug adapter (or a new lead if the fitting is the same). Pretty cheap conversion but eats into the £28.

Sony aren't daft. They appear to have their prices set to make importing pointless, at least at current exchange rates. I'd buy a UK one.

Its still going to be region locked for films I think. I'm pretty sure the PS3 was. Better off getting a UK one just to be sure.

If the OP was only purchasing the PS4, and had no other items, then the PS4 would be under the duty free allowance (currently £390 per person), therefore the approx price would be £270. In fact, that would still leave about £120 for other shopping before hitting the duty limit.

An £80 saving (almost 25%) might be worthwhile...
