gopro 3rd party batteries (hero 6)

Last year I bought a gopro hero 6 for our two week trip to WDW. I also bought a gymbal which broke on the way out and to be honest the camera didn't get used much. Don't get me wrong it is capable of fantastic quality images but I was disillusioned with it and used my phone - which also shoots in 4k - 4 video.

This year we are going out for a week and have decided to give the gopro a second chance but have always been concerned at battery life. I should have mentioned that when I bought the original gopro I bought 6 extra third party batteries for it.

So last night - in prep for the trip in July- i thought i would do some battery life testing. So I charged all of my 7 batteries (one gopro and 6 third party) to 100%.I started by testing several of the third party batteries and was shocked by the result.

With the camera recording in 2k7/50fps it used 1% of the battery every 10 seconds. So was I to shoot continuously by my maths this equates to about 15 minutes of shooting before the battery is dead given that the camera may stop just short of 0%

So I then repeated the same test with the original gopro battery which used 1% every 50 seconds.so by my sums that's a battery life of about 83 minutes.

So third party batteries- 15 minutes - original- 80+ minutes...mmm!

I have ordered some more third party batteries with a higher rating than the gopro originals but be warned you get what you pay for !
