Tipping uber and lyft

Just seen on another thread about adding a top to Lyft o the app
Do people do this .
I was under the impression that you weren't expected to do this
Any advice ?

With Uber, after your journey it asks you on the app if you want to tip the driver and also leave them a rating.

Same with Lyft ... and yes just like here you'd tip a cab driver

With Uber and Lyft you rate the driver after the ride ... but they rate you too so if you did as a manner of course stiff the drivers you'd be rated low and possibly find fewer drivers would accept your ride request. (Which is probably better than the taxi drivers who have been known to yell a passengers in the street if they haven't tipped)

We’re using Uber/Lyft this August - what is the normal expectation re tipping on say a $20 trip?

We tipped the same as we would do here! Anything from a couple of dollars to five dollars. Some of the uber drivers we had were terrific! All were good.

Totally agree averaged $2 a rid3. Gave a couple of $5 to really helpful drivers.

It is not expected but in the same way I tip cabbies at home, assuming my journey has been OK, I'll tip my Uber drivers too.

I did so with cash before they added tipping into the app, now I do it within the app itself.
