We have booked a package via Thomas Cook, in the unlikely event that anything was to happen with them we would be covered with ABTA/ATOL - is this correct?

I know this is highly unlikely to happen just want to check!

Yes but how do we get cover for all eventualities now TC’s situation has been broadcast ? Will any insurance providers be willing to underwrite what could be a large risk.

I think the key is trying not to panic, but get all your necessary info to hand, ie what happens if.

It does feel all a bit too similar to Monarch's rumblings for the year or so before they went. Really hoping not.

Maybe if you said this 5 or 6 years ago i would of half agreed...

The 178-year-old tour operator reported a loss before tax of £1.5bn for the six months to the end of March, from a loss of £303m in the same period the previous year.

Just another comment about being stuck over there usually as a british citizen if a large british airline goes bust the government will send other airlines to bring you home,I think it happened when Xl went under!

At then end of the day we don't know what will happen its all speculation if we stop booking they are gone, and all we have is Virgin and the large airlines, happy days ,im off this is just going around in circles now!
I am covered and will just have to pay for more expensive flights if the unthinkable happens!

I don’t want to be accused of scare tactics, being alarmist etc so I’m leaving this thread. My apologies if my comments have upset, panicked or annoyed people.

The comments I’ve made on this thread are based on my 40 years in international banking, which included working on a team looking after the banking requirements of 4 major airlines. This was a few years ago so matters might have been “tightened up”.

Obviously it’s wise to check what cover you have for each booking especially if not a package, and then look for extra cover is needed.

All of this might be completely irrelevant if TC are taken over in the short term.

agree with this,
you may not be the first to leave the country but in times like this other carriers also do offer gesture of good will for people with tickets. - case by case basis.

key thing is to ensure you are covered
