Buying new laptop - advice recommendations?

Hi

I am looking to buy a new mini laptop roundabout 10/11" screen for around £200 or less, the smaller the better as its mostly for travelling.

I need it for the following

Word - writing up those trip reports
Wifi
SD Card port
Would be nice to have one that has Office 365 and Windows 10 on it.

There seem to be quite a few on the net and I feel a bit overwhelmed by the different ones.

I am liking the HP ones but I also see ASUS and Fusion which I have never heard of, they are very reasonable prices but just not sure, I did purchase a tablet by Archos but the screen quality it terrible so unfortunatly anything by them gets the thumbs down from me.

I could go into PC world and ask but just not sure they are giving me unbiased advice whereas on here - you say it as you see it which I like.

I’d have to check the models now, but have a look at a refurbed Lenovo thinkpad - they are fantastic value and well built peices of kit, ideal for general stuff like office and internet,
Otherwise Lenovo and HP tend to be reasonable at the low price end (though HPs do have a lot of rubbish pre installed when new), if you go to curry’s Don’t let them bully you into spending more, as you won’t need massive amounts of memory (unless you want to store pics, which point I’d suggest getting an external drive for them anyway and keeping the laptops hardrive smaller with an ssd) and you don’t need anything with a great graphics card either as your not gaming or doing masses of video editing.

do you need MS Word? can you survive using google docs instead?

for £200, you're not likely to get a very good new laptop (or ultrabook if you want it in the 10-12" screen range).

you should go for either a chromebook (and google docs), or a refurbed lenovo X series laptop - for £200ish you could get an x250 with 240gb ssd, 8gb ram and windows 10 - ebay/itm/Lenovo-X2...B/323765990054

I'll have a look at Lenovo, the very reason I ask on here and not in store is because I can't guarantee they are giving me unbiased advice, as you say they just want me to buy something probably more expensive and not suitable to my needs. No photos, no videos, no games.

A Chromebook is a good idea for what you want to do. Otherwise just a 10" Android tablet with a keyboard case.

I wouldn't be looking at full Microsoft Windows based machines in that price point really. Add another £100 and you will get something decent that will last.
