Does cider really go out of date?

I have been gifted a massive bag of out of date cans of strongbow, magners and stella cidre.

They are all technically out of date, some June this year, and some 2 years out of date, and everything in the middle.

They assured me it doesn't go off, but just obviously can't be sold.

Would you try it?

I doubt it’d do you that much harm - particularly the June dates
Just may not taste as nice.

It’s a running joke in my family to never accept a beer from my grandad - 90% of the time it’ll be out of date! People do still drink them though and we use the rule that if the fizz had gone, don’t drink it, if it’s still there, crack on.

We had the same with late father in law. When he died and I cleared out his fridge I found a pot of margarine about 5 years out of date. We all stood back while I opened it and it was perfect. Not only did I not eat it I have never eaten fake butter spread since.

Personally I would drink it.

There was a thing on TV a while back that opened a tin or sardines from the 1960s and tested it for bacteria. It was perfectly fine to eat.
What they said was that food in cans would pretty much last indefinitely as long as the tin wasn't damaged with dents.

No idea - a bottle of wine doesn’t last long enough in this house to check if there’s dates 😂

Like anything with a best before date, it won't be unsafe to drink if it's past the date. However it might not taste as nice as it did. In this case, the acid in the cider might have reacted with the metal of the can causing it to taste a bit metallic. Try it and see.

And btw some wine does have a best before date.
