We were another May cancellation! But we have booked for exactly the same dates again for next year already (Avios redemption flights). Hopefully we'll get there this time, one positive is that I've made the trip a couple days longer as I realised we wouldn't have been able to see everything we wanted to without rushing around. So we have settled on 4 nights Tokyo, 4 nights Disney, 6 nights Kyoto (incl a day trip to Hiroshima). I had managed to snag a Miracosta booking too for this year, so I'll have to go through all that again!

Sure i read recently that if you want to take large cases on bullet trains, you need to book specific seats in carriages and they are limited.

Thank you. I will save all these links.
Last year we only took one suitcase with us down to Kyoto and left our other one at the Tokyo hotel as we were returning there for a couple of nights before flying home. They were so efficient they brought our suitcase out to us as we checked in before us even mentioning it. This thread is really getting me in the mood to go again. |

We were supposed to visit Tokyo in April for the start of our daughter’s internship. She will hopefully be able to rearrange her internship for next year and then we will rebook. The only bright side is that we will be able to visit for longer next year.

Had been thinking about a possible Japan trip later this year (this was before the pandemic came along)... But with circumstances as they are right now I'm not booking any holidays until things calm down a bit.
Did go to Tokyo a few years ago in October and the weather was pretty perfect then! A lot of that trip involved Disneyland - if Disneyland is one of the things on your list it might be worth looking at crowd calendars to help decide on dates. (Though again with current circumstances... who knows what will happen crowds wise). I did really like Tokyo in autumn though, it was quite pretty!

Well BA have now extended their confidence/voucher scheme to end August so that clears me to forget about Japan this year and start planning for next.

To get over the depression of not going on holiday to the US today as planned, we’ve just booked a week in Tokyo in March next year. We’ve done both May and October before and travelled around a bit, so this time we’re just probably going to stick to exploring Tokyo and maybe catch some cherry blossom.
We booked both the flights and hotel on a fully refundable basis so will hopefully be ok if coronavirus is still an issue.
