Avis toll charges

Hi all
I have a car rented with Avis at Miami airport,
Do the toll charges start automatically as you leave the garage or do I have to register at the desk?
Also have I got this right its a max of $19:95 per rental plus toll charges.
Unfortunately the visitor toll pass is not available from Miami.

Thanks

You don’t have to register at the desk, the toll charge will start once you go through the first one.

I think it’s still $19.95 max plus the toll charges.

Unfortunately the price has gone up now:

e-Toll fees (Standard): If you use the e-Toll service at any time during your rental, you agree to pay a convenience fee of $5.95 for each day on which you incur a toll up to a maximum amount of $29.75 per rental period (not to exceed 30 days). In addition, you will pay all tolls incurred at the maximum prevailing non-discounted or cash rates posted by the toll authority

I've stopped posting the Sunpass "toll by plate" web site on here because even after a few months the Avis section is still out of date. Every time I did post it I had to caveat the Avis/Budget bit . I was exchanging posts on here with Andy of DFCH over the weekend. He's communicated with the Sunpass authorities a few times asking them to update their web page - so far in vain.

He did however say that Avis may also be introducing a fully inclusive weekly offer including tolls at $60 a week. That's even dearer than the current Dollar unattractive offer

PS to Sapper

Your Avis car may have a built in transponder. Switched on or off these have no effect on tolls in Florida. All hire cars work on a "toll by plate" system so even if switched off they will still enable Sunpass if you choose not to stop and pay cash.

You should note that there's quite a few "cashless" tolls around the MIA area - see here

sunpass/en/about/whe...eSunPass.shtml

As I mentioned above though on the tab "traveller information" "rental vehicles" ignore the Avis/Budget costs

Avis toll charge increase

Avis toll charges in the state of Florida. You are responsible for payment of all tolls incurred during the rental period. Avis offers an optional service called e-Toll that allows customers to use electronic toll lanes on highways, bridges, tunnels and other tolled passages. All Avis vehicles are pre-equipped to electronically process tolls. Unless you directly pay the toll yourself as described below (see “Opting Out of e-Toll”), you will automatically opt-into e-Toll and pay the fees described herein if you drive through an electronic toll. e-Toll fees (Standard): If you use the e-Toll service at any time during your rental, you agree to pay a convenience fee of $5.95 for each day on which you incur a toll up to a maximum amount of $29.75 per rental period (not to exceed 30 days). In addition, you will pay all tolls incurred at the maximum prevailing non-discounted or cash rates posted by the toll authority.
